At what age is it appropriate to begin training a puppy?

Is it reccomended that the owner attempts the training or takes the puppy to a professional?

If it is reccomended that the owner trains the dog, please provide some resources if possible.

I have searched quite a bit for online resources on training but most of the sites that I have come up with sometimes contradict themselves, or only provide bits of information before promting you to buy their book. With the books, there are so many out there that I don't know which ones are worth buying.

Right now is the best time to continue training your puppy. From the very moment your pup arrived in your home he has been learning your routine and learning what you expect of him.

I would reccommend you locate a puppy training class in your area. Possibly by going to the AKC.org web site you could find an obedience club in your area, that would be an excellent place to start.

With proper guidence, the owner is the best person that can train your dog. I would not resort to a professional to train the dog for you unless there is some specific reason for it.
