Pup wont budge on his leash

Ok, its me again. I introduced my 8 week old Diesel to his collar a few days ago. I also started clicking the leash on, which he imediately began chewing. I tried giving it a light pull, but he wont budge, and HE (not me) is actually hurting himself from pulling. I only do it a few mins, but several times a day. There must be a better way. By the way I tried calling him and offering him treats too.
And he sleeps a lot! Is this normal? He plays for a while, then sleeps for 2 or 3 hours.

He is a baby. Sleeping is perfectly normal.

Put some bitter apple on the part of the leash that he can chew, then click the leash on and let go of it. Let him get used to the leash on the collar before you try making him go where you want.

Boy, do they ever sleep a lot! Cooper slept though his vet exam the day after I brought him home, including the part where he got the thermometer up his butt.

The bitter apple is a good suggestion. And PATIENCE! You need lots of that with little puppies, they're just babies. He'll get it. :)

We just made GREAT progress!!! We went about 20 feet. Ok, it was actually about 5 feet back and forth a few times, but that was serious progress. I enticed him with a ball. Diesel LOVES playing ball. So I latched on the leash, and gave the ball a little toss. We went about 5 or 6 feet then he realized what was going on and plopped his butt down. I am happy though, and I gave him tons of praise with every step. Thanks for the tips, I will try the apple stuff on the leash.

What kind of collar do you have on Diesel? I hope it is a nice flat buckle type collar.

LOL, puppies! :D You just learned a valuable lesson in cooperation....when teaching him new things, it always goes smoother if you can find the motivation your dog needs to cooperate. My dog is also toy motivated, much more than food, but the way I got her to discover the joys of leash-hood was to do a little two-step while moving away from her, holding the end of the leash. She really thought she was missing out on something and couldn't get to my side fast enough! We did a lot of dancing during the first few weeks! :D

I have a small choke chain. Dont worry I am not pulling it hard and choking him. Is a regular collar better?

YES, a flat collar is BETTER!!! remove the "choke chain" and don't put it back on while the puppy is still so small.

He is equating the DISCOMFORT of the collar with walking on the leash........so he's not going to like it.

put the "choke chain" away!!! he doesn't need it.

Yeah, he's not going to learn or like to walk on a lead if everytime he takes a step he feels pressure around his neck that is associated with a correction. Switch to a flat collar ASAP.
