an observation on term "correction"

I was reading some posts after doing search for terms like "heel" and such, and noticed that sometimes they develop into discussions of reinforcement versus punishment versus correction or etc. Whether training by all positive reinforcement works, and the like. Sometimes it seems like there is less actual disagreement than difference in the way words are being used.

The term "correction" in particular seems to be used by some people to mean something like a quick sharp snap on leash ("leash correction"). (+p?, even if mild) By others something like the withholding of a reward (-r? ) . Are both senses correct uses of the term?

Too late to edit the above:
withholding of reward I think is -p (not a -r as I wrote)

Actually is a leash correction a +p? If a quick snap, prob yes. But if dog tugs on a prong or choke and is uncomfortable thus stops pulling, that's almost more of a -r (taking away of something bad)?
