Experience with training 2 dogs at the same time?

Has anyone had any luck with training 2 dogs at the same time?

My inclination is to train them separately, but the other seems to pick stuff when giving command (clicker vs. prong collar)...

Any recommendations either way ?

We have two 5 month old rottie puppies that my daughter and I are currently training. I got my puppy Akasha when she was 8 weeks old and we were so happy with her that we decided to get her brother Keil for my daughter. Akasha has a little bit of an advantage over Keil since we have had her longer and she started her training right away. We have only had Keil for a little over a month but he is quickly catching up to his sister!
Even though Akasha is mine and Keil is my daughters we work with both of them. We try and make them work for everything we give them. They have gotten really good at doing things together. It adds a little bit of competition for them. When we call them they both come running, because they don't want to miss out on anything the other might be getting lol.
We do make sure and work with each one individually also. For any serious training sessions they are seperated. We either put one puppy away or one puppy is put in a down stay while the other puppy is worked with. Right now they are both in puppy classes but they are in different classes. Akasha is in super puppy and Keil is in puppy class which I think has been good for them. I don't want them to get dependant on each other. They will be in the same class for the next set of classes but I think that their basics are solid enough that they should be able to work around each other without too much of a problem (I hope)
I do have to say though that since we brought Keil home I have had to work harder at training Akasha. She still learns very quickly though thank goodness lol.

When working formally, I defintely separate the dogs. There is no way I can focus on one the way I need to when the others are dancing around. However, when your dogs get older, I have found it helpful to practice stays my puting them all in downstays in a line, then calling one out to do some practice. Put that one back, call out another.

I've been fortunate to find classes that will allow me to bring both dogs. It's an hour class, and I trade dogs on the half hour. We've stayed in the same class now for 3 sessions, but they're learning at the same level.

I perfer to train the dogs apart - especially when learning a new skill or doing "brush up" work. However - I've found that the distraction of another dog is also beneficial -I would bring both outside on long leads and have them both do different commands - one sit, one lay, one come other stay and such. It really made them focus on me - but there is no way I could have gotten anything major accomplished in this manner. Once Buster is "up and running" with his training I will continue to do the same thing.

Thanks for the help... I will probably train each separately than bring them together at the end to finish up...

I'm also thinking of building a mini-agiliity course in the back yard...

Dante loves it and I think Aedia would enjoy it too...

I will do a search later, but does anyone know off the top of their head a good agility training website?

What kind of info are you looking for?

Here's a link to my activities page, I have several of the better agility pages listed. They are a little ways down the page.

If you are looking for something specific let me know and I will see if I can give you a page that covers it.
