How to crate train adult dog

Does anyone have any suggestions on crate training an adult dog? Cleo is 4-1/4 years old, and due to a snapping incident with my 3 year old niece, (see behavior forum) I now need to crate train her. I got Cleo when she was a little over 1 year old, and I don't know if she was crate trained as a puppy. The crating will be only when I am home and my niece is over, or strangers are over. Plus, when I think she needs to calm down. What about the size? She is 117lbs. Thanks, -Beth

Just train her as if she was a puppy, first let her explore it, throw some goddies inside for her to go an eat, or throw a toy inside, let her get use to it, then start closing the door for a couple of minutes, increase the time gradually. Don't rush or force her in, instead lure her with treats or toys.

Always give her something to chew or eat inside so she does not get bored. Put some blankets or something in it for her to be comfortable. As for the size, she should be able to turn and stand in it.

In no time she will get use to it.

Carolina :)
