| Growling Its been about a month since Chanel ate up all of his chew bone! (She's just 3 1/2 months old) Well, my porblem actually is that...I just bought her a new chew bone, I think she really loves it...but...why is it that everytime I touch it she growls at me? It never happened before when she had her last chew bone? Is it normal or is she turning out to be a selfish dog? help please! What should I do, I tried keeping the bone after I correct her but after giving it back, she still does the same.... Bieboiy |

| She liked the last one so much she doesn't want you to take the new one. He should be corrected and then take it away. After you have regained the bone you can run her through a little obedience (sit, stay, other commands she knows) then hold the bone while she chews it for a little while. Do this a few times(period of days) and then you can let her have it. When you let her have it have some of her FAVORITE treats available and then trade. Tell her "out" or "give" whatever you use. When she gives the bone, praise/treat, and then give the bone back. what you are trying to do is establish that the bone is yours (holding while chewing). After establishing that the bone is yours then you can start letting her "use" it but she has to give it up. By giving her treats and praise when she gives it up you teach her a couple of things. One, a command to relinquish items in her possession and two, that it isn't so bad to do because she gets treats and praise when she does it. When giving the bone back you teach her that relinquishing it doesn't necessarily mean she won't ever see it again so, another reason for her to give it up. |

| When I first got my rottweiler he would growl when I would feed him. So I made him eat with my hand in his bowl. And he qrowls (at me) no more. Maybe try something like that with your puppy. |

| It seems (also from reading your other posts) you have your hands full with that little girl. Yes, she is still a baby, but that does not mean it time not to teach her manners. The answer is quite simple: She growls at you, because you ALLOW it. She will continue growling and will probably sooner or later also show her teeth, snap and bite also in other situations, if you don’t stop all unacceptable behaviour. A golden rule: If your corrections don’t work, you haven’t done it right. Please remember, pups do not outgrow bad behaviours… on the contrary… and what is “cute and funny” now, is NOT funny, but rather dangerous, when the dog turns 1 yr. old. Bad behaviours are trained away with consistent, fairness and understanding. I suggest you take her to puppy training as soon as possible and in the meantime read, read and read. Do a search here in the forums about biting, growling, dominance and you will find lots of info. Good luck with the training!! :)

| Thanks Thanks for your answers...i'll try doing the things you all shared. Its really kinda awkward for me and my friend to train dogs or put them in training 'coz this is the first time we ever encountered having a rottie as a companion. In my case, my past dogs are small ones that's why I never really had them trained. I promise to try all the things you guys told me and i hope you can teach me more. I really love my Chanel and don't want to give her up.('coz some of our friends said that it is best to just sell her) But I dont want to do that. I'll just keep you guys posted on the things happening to us. Thanks again for the advices. Bieboiy |

| Please try your best to train this girl. That is part of the commitment of owning a rottweiler. I hope that you aren't going to listen to your friends and "sell" her. Also, You would be suprised at the number of "small" dogs that people have in training classes as well. Hang in there....It is a lot of work trainig our friends, but so worth it to have a good natured companion in the end. Stick around here, and as you have already learned people are more than willing to help you out.:)
