| temperment testing Basically I have a question? When I went to the vet yesterday for Cosmo's annual exam- They had a female Rottie approx. 1 1/2 yrs old that was brought in by animal control as a stray. They said she is very sweet. I met her and she is very friendly (didn't seem hand shy, took treats gently, knows sit) but before I would even consider bringing her home I wanted to know if there is anything I can do to test her temperment. I was possibly going to ask to take her for a walk just to see how she reacts to different things. I have a 4yr old dominant Rottie boy who likes other dogs as long as they are submissive to him. I did tell them about NERR in case she isn't claimed or adopted. Janel |

| I'll second the question, since I'm beginning to consider adopting again. My beloved Calvin was a shelter rescue, and a very special dog. I'd like to honor his memory by adopting again and some guidance in how to evaluate for temperment would be most welcome. Kate G Forever owned by Calvin PS - I just noticed you live in NJ too, where is this Rottie girl that you were looking at? |

| Have you asked your Vet for recommendations? Most Vet's are pleased as punch to offer this to pet owners. Also, you can seek out a behaviorist in your area (make sure you check them out first though). Last but not least, you can try your local Rescue org. A reputible rescue org TT's their dogs BEFORE they can be placed. See if they can help or advice who can. IF all else fails, you can probably contact your local dog club and see if there is a certified evaluator in your area. Hope this helps.

| The Rottie girl is @ Hodes Vet. Group in Mine Hill, NJ. I did ask my vet because that is where she is - he doesn't give much advice about behavior. I could talk to my trainer. The only rott rescue in this area is NERR. I will probably try to see what they recommend. |
