Training Food Ideas

I'm just trying to get suggestions on other foods to try during training to keep the motivation high.

So far hot dogs are hard to beat. They're inexpensive, convienient, easy to handle, etc..

Thanks

We started using cheese for Elsa's training in class and in busy areas where there were lots of distractions. She loves it and pays much more attention to it than anything else that we were using. :D We buy the cubes and then I just cut them up into smaller, easy to give pieces. Carrots are also good too, and cheap!

GULP!!! It's gone.....LOL!! I always like the look I get afterwords like where is it mom, I never got it.....LOL!!!

I use a lot of different things during new commands! Veggie pieces or left over steak or chicken pieces from our dinner the night before. For reinforcing commands that she should know and obey I use her kibble. She doesn't get a dinner time. I measure out her kibble for the day and all day long give her little handfuls when she obeys me. This way she sees it always comes from me and has to graze to eat and not try to gulp a cup down in 30 seconds....LOL!

So far the absolute biggest hit with her when we are working on new things is Beef Jerky. Real beef Jerky that is.....LOL! I get the kind with no spices or salt and pepper. She will do almost anything we have worked on with this stuff!!!

I have found that small pieces (the size of half a nickle) of baked liver work wonders. It is a little more messy but it gets Buster to do things he normally wouldn't try. After he gets the idea I switch to something less tasty so as not to let him get to used to it. Oh, I keep it in the freezer so it won't go bad and the frozen pieces are a little easier and less messy to work with.

Sable loves Wildside Salmon treats and Liver Biscotti available thru Sitstay.com Pounce brand cat treats come in a variety of flavors, are soft and exactly the right size. Sable likes Shrimp flavor. I also have a recipe for making a dried liver treat somewhere...if I find it...I'll post it. It was given to me by a handler.
