Quiet

What is the most effective way to teach the command quiet? With summer coming, barking can be annoying to neighbors so i'd like to get started on this!

Thanks

Try NO! :D or STOP. Does your rott bark a lot?
Sometimes I wish mine did. i just say okay, good boy and he stops. Or you could teach him to bark on command and then no bark. he'll understand real fast. i tried everything....food bite work. Ultimately the only thing that worked to make Leader bark was his §§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§ball. You want it? You bark (all I actually said was bark:( ). at the first whimper great praise and the ball. Little by little he had to bark louder and louder. (It usually sounds closer to a cough or clearing the throat than what I call a bark. Be that as it may, he does do something. Then stop is the next word and you have it!

Good luck:D

Yes he barks alot!! Any time he sees a squirrel or a bird. Anytime someone walks by my house and especially any time he hears another dog bark( which is frequently since I live in the city). I think I'll try the bark command that way I'll have an on and off button. Thanks!!!

He's about 20 months. He's actually sick right now so he's not doing much barking or playing for that matter. When he gets better i'll start working on this and i'll let you know how it goes!

Thanks again

With 5 dogs in the house, if one barks, they ALL have to join in. OK, when someone comes to the door and we don't hear them knock...but annoying when they just won't stop!

So, what I do is, when they start to bark, I tell them, "Thank you - Good dogs, OK, no bark!" They'll stop, and they get praise...some have figured out that once in a while there will be a cookie along with the prasie, so as soon as I (or someone else) checks the door, they stop.

Wow! 5 dogs can produce alot of barking. I just wasn't sure if praising him for something I don't want him to do would encourage the behavior. I don't mind if he barks an alert but usually he's barking at squirrels and birds or at other dogs barking. Should I treat that barking the same as I would an alert bark?

Are all 5 of those dogs yours or are they fosters? i know you volunteer for NERR I actually just started doing volunteer work for them myself
