Our first training class was FUN!

We just got back from our first training class. Puppy Kindergarten.
She is by far the biggest puppy. She was also the oldest at 17 weeks. There were puppies there that were 9 weeks. Most were about 12 wks.
First the trainer went over rules and expectations. Then we spent about 10 minutes walking around the room and taking them through some really low jumps.
Then we did work on "come". We held out treats and walked backwards while allowing them to smell and nibble at the treat while saying "come". Then after about 10 minutes the trainer held each pup while we went down to the end of the small jumps. Then each person would bend over and hold out a treat and say come while taking a few small steps backward. The trainer would then let go of the pup and let it run through the jumps to the owner. Everyone did that twice.
Then we worked on dominance by sitting on the floor and holding the pup on their back on our legs. Most pups didnt resist, Chyna was SUPER! and only one pup needed the trainer to assist and show its owner how to get the pup to comply.

Then it was time to go!! We had a lot of fun. We have three more classes then its on to basic obedience!!

I was at first worried that the trainer would not be good. But after I got there I realised that she was no beginner. Ribbons and pictures everywhere, and she trains with the local sheriffs dept, K9 units. :)
The classes were only $40 for four weeks. I dont t hink that was very much at all! I was expecting it to cost more. Maybe the more advanced classes are, I dont know yet.

Well thanks for putting up with my long post about our first class.

Oh by the way..... She COMES when I say it now!

I think it is so helpful for you to post what you did in training. #1 for people who may not have the time to go to classes, it allows them to do the same things and do training on their own. #2 even if people do go to classes, your trainer may do something new or different than other training classes and people on this board always are interested and welcome new methods and ideas.

Please continue to post in the level of detail of your last one. I really apprecaite it!

I'm so glad to hear that it went well!! Tonight is Elsa's last puppy class:( ,although she's going to be entering basic obedience very soon.

I loved puppy kindergarten soooo much. Elsa already knew sit/down before we even entered class, but the big thing is the play time and socialization that the pups get!! I'm sad that it's over! I liked the group of people & dogs in our class and it's become so much a part of our weekly routine.

Our classes sound very similar. I always liked when we would hold them and get them to settle down. Elsa actually fell asleep in class twice while we were holding her

Keep having fun with it! The time goes by so fast!
