house training problems Ruger is now 3 months old and after a bad case of worms now weighs in at 38 lbs. He has gotten over the biting and is becomming a pleasure to be with. His problem is that he associates peeing on the floor with going outside. He does not poop just pees. I will take him and play with him and he doesnt do anything then I leave him out at lease 2-3 hrs sometimes and when i bring him back in within 20 mins hell pee on the floor and run to the door and it just goes on and on. I have to take him to let him know thats where hes supposed to go and when i see him go it outside i say good boy and praise him. But he still go inside. My older female just looks at me like Im stupid when he does it:} What am I doing wrong?

Are you crating your dog...? Crating is an excellent way to train your dog to "go pee" outside. When you crate your dog you take the dog outside before giving it freedom in your house. It'll learn to equate freedom in the house with "go pee". If the dog won't go outside..., put the rascal back into the crate for a second try a little later. When my pup had freedomI watched her like a hawk. My puppy always circled before peeing and then I quickly whisked it out the door..., calmly repeating the "go pee" command. While grabbing for my stash bag of treats within my pocket. But honestly crating is the way to go..., the dog won't defecate their sleeping area..., and the minute they are out they are out the door with no time to " go pee"inside. When the pup got the hang of this I placed the dog in a small room rather than romp the entire house. Same idea I took hre outside before she got more freedom. Maybe this helps... :p

When you take the pup out, take it out to go potty first. Stay out with the pup until it has gone. Then if you want to play, do so, but after the potty duties. If you are going out to play, then that distracts from the purpose and the pup thinks the yard is for play time and will not connect it with potty time.

The answer is still the same. If you know that he needs two "go's", then stay out with him until he has gone twice.
