Licking iron weights or metal

My Max is a four year old. Very healthy. He likes to lick my old fashioned iron hand weights and sometimes other metal items like file drawers. Not every day and for about five minutes at most. Is this normal? He doesn't lick anything else but his bones and me. Thanks for the help Max's Mom.

It could be that he is deficient in minerals, that is the old wives tale anyway.

Or could be cause it is nice and cold?

Does he get a balanced diet, have you tried supplements?

It could also be a bit like a comforter?

I have a big round rock that is cut in half in my livingroom. I use them to keep my phone line and dsl jack plugged in. Chyna loves to lay by them and lick them. Its wierd. She licks rocks outside too. I think its because thier cold.
