Volhard or Snap Choke Collar

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this type of collar. I'd read about it in a book and it seemed like a good idea. It is a nylon choke that fits high up on the neck and is closed with a snap, instead of slipping over the head like a regular choke. Because it snaps closed, it doesn't have to be as big as a slip choke and supposedly stays put in the proper position without slipping down the neck.

I wanted to give it a try and had looked every where for one to no avail. Tonight I registered Dresden for basic obedience and asked the instructor what equipment she preferred. She mentioned that their personal choice was the Volhard collar and that they would have some at the class for sale. Kind of seems like karma. ;)

Anyway, if anyone has used one for training, I'd appreciate your thoughts on it.

I have them and use them particularly during the early phrase of training where I offer the dog more physical guidance than I need later on.

Thanks, Judi.:) It sounds like it should be a good collar for Dresden. Although she's one year old, she's had very little in the way of obedience training. She's not a wild woman, she's actually very well-behaved, but is definitely in the "early stage" of training.
