| Speaking :p Hey everyone I have a quick question. I have a 11 month old male named Smokey. I want to teach him to speak/bark on command. The problem is, I have no idea how to a do this? He doesn't bark at all when he is around me, thus I dont know where to start. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks |

| The way I taught my dogs was to have them sit, and then I would look them in the eye and say the word "Speak" - and then when they looked at me like I was crazy, I did a big "WOOF!" I did this a few times (can't remember how many) before they caught on, but it didn't take long. They (three) just got it right away, not sure if mine are the exception or the rule. good luck!

| I did things the same way....just kept looking at them, and repeating "SPEAK!" until they did. Then gave them a treat. After they really caught on, I didn't need to use treats anymore. Also, they got so good, I could put my finger up to my lips and not say a word, and they knew that was the sign for "speak." Smarty-pants dogs! Only one hitch in the deal.....I never could get any of my male dogs to speak.....all of my girls would, but not the boys. Seems as if they felt it was beneath them to do such a thing!!!! Good luck with yours!
