| Drinking Urine? I have a 3 month old rottweiler puppy and lately he has been urinating in the crate, then about 30 seconds later he begins to drink it. This cant be normal. At first I thought it was because I was not giving him enough water so I have started to give him plenty of fresh water. But this behavior still continued. The only conclusion that I can come up with is that he drinks the urine because he does not want to lay in it. He does not attempt to drink his urine when he goes outside. Any idea why he is doing this? |

| Jada, how often are you letting him out of his crate? He shouldn't be in there long enough to urinate in his crate, that is the whole point of using a crate, so it doesn't pee in it. It should be small enough so he can turn around but thats it. If the crate is too big, the dog will go in the corner and pee. If you have a large crate and can't get a smaller one right now than divide it in half. Make sure you give your dog frequent bathroom breaks so it doesn't have the oppurtunity to get into this trouble. |

| I take him out quite often, However he does not always use the b-room outside. I agree that the crate is probably too big for him but he isnt even peeing in the corner he will go right in the middle, then he licks it up. Its quite weird. By the time I hear him peeing i tell him no and to stop but he is already done, then he licks away. I have been attempting to remove him from the crate before he gets the chance to lick it up, but I dont want him to think that he can get out of his crate whenever he wants by peeing in it. |

| You're making him wait too long. Take the puppy out every hour......stay out there with him until he goes outside.....give him some play time and water....take him back outside.....allow him to potty......then put him in the crate (correctly sized one) for a nap.....and WATCH FOR HIM TO WAKE UP......then immediately carry him outside to potty. Licking up urine IMHO is his way of cleaning up his own mess.....so he has a clean place to lay down.
