Kids and puppy

I was wondering what you folks that have kids and rotties do when a pup plays rough?
I had a bit of a problem with my last pup, she wanted to always grab thier arms or hands. She was gentle, but I know its not at all proper. I had the kids yell "NO BITE!!" and fold thier arms and turn away from her, and ignore her for a short time. It took me a while to get them to do this. They are 8 and almost 4 yrs old. It seemed to work pretty well. I always closely supervised them, and did not allow them to play together unwatched. When they would run around in the yard she seemed to want to jump up and grab at thier hands if they had a toy. I had them yell "NO, DOWN!!" stop, and fold arms again. I would also follow up with the same commands.
We lost her when she was still so young, that I dont know if this was the right way to correct her, we were just in the early stages of training her.
Also what are good ways for the kids to assert dominance over the pup, so that she wont think she is equal or dominant over them?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions. I just want to start out right before any problems start.
I am also enrolling Chyna in obedience classes as soon as she has had enough shots. The trainer said two or three shots first.
So at about three mos. Does this sound right?

Same exact problem with my 10 week old (puppy). I have 11, 8, and 5 yr old (children).

What can I do to help my kids with dominance?

i don't know if it's a dominance issue , most likely it's just a puppy bieng a puppy, the fix for it and i'm still going through it to i have a 3year old 8 month old and the pup is 18 weeks, is just to never leave kids alone with pup and to correct dog as well as kids not only when they get to rough, but the key that i found is, knowing and stopping the rough houseing before it starts . that has been working for me;)

Hello, My kaiya is 11 weeks old, and I have an 8 year old ason and a 6 year old daughter. I have to continuely tell my son to calm down. He gets the puppy really hyper. I remind him that her father was 153 pounds, and that we wouldn't want her playing that way when she is older. My daughter is still getting used to her. At first she would run from the puppy, and of course, the puppy thought , great !!:D lets play chase, and my daughter would run and scream with puppy jumping up at her.
I have now taught my daughter that she needs to stand her ground and tell the puppy "NO, DOWN" firmly.
My biggest fear is that my puppy will try and be dominate over my daughter, so we have tried to help my quiet daughter be more assertive.
But again, there is just as much training of the children as there is with the puppy.

Mike, a proud rottweiler Father !!

i'm in total agreement with you, judi who has taught me alot thanks to this forum told me at one point that i can't exspect a 3 year old to try and correct the dog while i sit and watch and tell him what to say. i am the one who will correct the dog , however that shouldn't stop my 3 year old son from verbally correcting the pup as long as i am their to enforce the correction if need be
