Take control, before is too late!

I want to highly recommend the following books that, in my opinion, they positively help, aid and guide dog owners about to how to properly raise and train a puppy/dog. You know, there is always the right way and the wrong way, is YOUR choice.

"Civilizing Your Puppy" by Barbara J. Wrede.

"The Puppy Owner's Manual" by Dana Delman

"Paws For A Minute: People Training For Dog Owners", by Inger Martens (EXCELLENT!)

"Urban Dog - The Ultimate Street Smart Training Manual", by Cis Frankel

Novice and more experienced dog owners will greatly benefit from getting those books. I have to say this: if you aren't willing to spend the money in buying dog training books, devote the necessary time to read and comprehend them, and commit to your dog's training, which involves decisive dedication and resolve, then you can't blame your dog but only yourself for getting those PREVENTABLE undesirable behaviors ;)

If I had to choose only two out of the four, then it would be #1 and #3, although, I have to say, the other two books are very good too ;) :)

German,

How would you rate the book "Culture Clash" by Jean Donaldson? I found this book to be an absolute eye opener into the whys of dog behavior, and it has really motivated me to provide a more interesting and stimulating environment for my dog.

It's an interesting book, although, I am not too convinced with all those personal theories and assumptions. I like other dog training books better

German,

Have you ever read "How Dogs Learn" by Mary R. Burch, Ph.D and Jon S. Bailey, Ph.D?

It's really not a book that tells you: you do a sit like this....... or the down goes like this......... It more like tells you the "whys" you use certain techniques. I think it's a real eye opener for anyone that wants to truly understand what is actually going on through the learning process. It starts off from the lab where the principles of training were discovered to the real life practical experience.

This book is about thorough foundation knowledge.

Yes, a good friend of mine recommended it to me sometime ago. It will be my next addition to my extensive dog book/video library. Thanks anyway!

The books I recommend are "user-friendly", excellent for novices and the not so experienced dog owners.

These sound great, I'm going to check them out on Amazon.com now.

I too read Jean Donaldson's book and found a lot of it refreshing, but didn't quite accept all of her theories. I did like the book.

Thanks German, for the suggestions, it's been awhile since I've read a "doggie book" I had been stuck on Anne Rice's new one! LOL

Thanks, Cinde

I got a great buy!

Thanks for the book reviews! I just went to half.com (an ebay company) and got Civilizing your puppy & , Paws for a minute for a grand total of 9.25 for both books! That's including shipping. :D
They are used books, but for a fraction of the price it's great!
They also have a wish list so you can add things you want to buy that they don't have available. I'm going to add the other 2 books to my wish list.

Have a look at "The Dog Whisperer" by Paul Owens. Your Library may have it. There was a film about a guy who nutted out how a horse thought and this guy Paul is on to that - but with a dog in mind.
Quite a different approach, and one I like. No force, no big macho display, just good psychology.
