Smell of Urine In Carpet

Does anyone know of anything that will get the smell of urine out of the carpet. I have tried rug cleanings, deodorizers, nothing will take out Cam's pee smell. It is really starting to make me ill. We have had a few accidents, I hope that they are all over, but you never know. Whitney

I clean the area with soap & water, then rinse. Next i sprinkle some baking soda on the spot & let it sit. Later i vaccum it up. Then just to be sure, i spray some deordorizer called Fabreeze on it.

Well, after my brilliant idea of re-arranging furniture in the living room and having grey carpeting, you saw the clean parts and the not so clean parts. At 9:00 last night my husband decided he wanted to clean the carpets. Well, what a difference it made and boy does the living room smell nice and fresh. I'm not saying to clean your carpets but it did make a very big difference. When Dakota had his few accidents when he was younger, I would do the same as Tenna suggested. Febreeze is really good, which I use often on the carpet and furniture but after a while IMHO all your doing is masking the odor over and over again.

2RottieMom,
I agree, I have used Febreeze and all it did was mask the rugs. I also bought a deep steamer rug cleaner, but you can still smell the pee underneath the clean smell. I am at a loss

I am the queen of carpet pee .When we bought this house, even though the old owners had been out for a few months, we had to tear up the carpet in the basement, the smell was so strong. Underneath the carpet and underlay, the concrete floor was *still wet*.
Upstairs, there are stains all over the grey carpet, and they tell us that not only was the carpet only 6 months old, it was steamed cleaned just before we bought the house. We cleaned it and it still smelt very faintly of pee.
Then we got the puppy, and she put a few new wet spots into the carpet.. and those stank!!
So just last week, I took out my bottle of Stain Extinguisher (blue bottle, got it at the mega-hardware store), and my bottles of ProSolve (one foaming cleaner from the supermarket, one liquid sample I got in the mail). I put one of the products on the stain, waited a bit, scrubbed it with a cotton yacht mop, then foamed the entire carpet, scrubbed it with the mop, waited a bit, then vaccuumed. No more stains (puppy pee, and of course the ever present tea), and no more smell!!! I highly recommend that ProSolve foam stuff. Spray, mop, vaccuum. I felt like a dork scrubbing my carpet with a mop, but it worked!!

There is a product called Simple Solution which uses enzymes to neutralize not just mask the odor. Highly recommend it. It does not just mask the odor. I always have it on hand.

If the urine went down into the carpet pad, you will need to soak all the way through the pad with your scent removal product. Surface wetting will not do the trick. Pour it on, blot with a towel and then let dry. The enzyme action must get to the urine to work.

I use Resolve Carpet Cleaner and/or 409 Carpet Cleaner. Both work well. Also, there is a new item on the market (I found it at Walmart). Not sure what the name is but it is a foam that you spray on the carpet and it disappears after 5 minutes. Says it is safe for children and pets and really leaves the carpet smelling fresh. It is good to use in between carpet cleanings.

Oxy Clean! You can get it at Wal-mart! Worked wonders in our house, and you can use it on clothes and furniture, too!

You can order simple solution from Foster and Smith. They are online,or you can get their 800 number from their site, or call 800 information.

I have been introduced to Oxy clean, and I put that in my steam cleaner, along with a tablespoon of Frebreze (sp) and carpet cleaning solution, I have found it takes everything out, and the Oxy clean is WONDERFUL to clean the carpets.

Oxy Clean can be ordered either online or you can get it from Sam's Club.

Good luck

Lisi
