Whatever you do, don't let him out when he is crying. If you do, he will learn that all he has to do is whine and you will let him out. Make sure you give him treats when he goes in. How old is your dog? WHen our girl was 8 weeks old, she did the same thing. I just ignored it and she eventually stopped after about a week. I know it's hard to ignore it, but you have to ignore him. Most all dogs do this at first. Good luck mike

Don't give in! You can do it. Just imagine this: If you give in now, he will wine every time you put him in his crate for ever! I know its hard. It sounde like someone was beating our girl it was so loud.

Everytime he goes in his crate give him an irresistible treat. I used low-fat liverwurst. Also wrapped a hot water bottle in a towel.

How big is this crate? I put axel's smaller one by my bed at night. When he cried ,i dropped my hand down & put my fingers through the wires & talked calmly to him. He still whined some, not as bad tho. In a week or so he was fine with the crate at night. Like the other have said, do NOT take him out because he is whining. He will in time accept & love his crate. Teena

If he has bonded to one particular family member where a shirt for a night or something and put it in there with Titan, my Titus even pulls the shirts out of the crate to sleep with on the floor =)

Mac also acted like he was being tortured when first put in his crate (daytime only). And as soon as I got home he would start the whining, crying, (look at me here in this prison - aren't I pitiful!) After two months of the crating he still doesn't like it but does much better. Just bear with it because crating is the way to go.

I usually would put a dark blanket over the crate so they would know that it is quiet time. I also have the TV or radio on in the bedroom that they are caged in(I had three puppies at one time.) My guys still sleep with either the soundspa or the radio on. What I also did was go into the room and praise them with a treat when they had been quiet for a couple of minutes, then worked it up so they would stop whining except when they had to go out and use the bathroom. Now, at around 1 year old they love their crates and prefer to sleep in them above anything else - even the bed! Good luck!
