What "age" to begin training Hi everyone! I have a question about training. What is a good age to start training a pup? I dont want to start too early with "formal" or "schedualed" training. My dog, Bailey, is 9 weeks old and already seems to understand some commands. When I say sit, she sits... ect. I would love to start teaching her more, but im not sure how strict or how often I should work with her on a day to day basis. I dont want her to miss out on being a puppy. Any tips or suggestions would really help. Thanks!

A pup is always in training from the day you bring it home. The pup is learning the word NO and his/er name. It's learning what is right and wrong. It's learning how to potty outside. Now, for formal get down to it training I would say four months is a great time to start. Just don't throw all the commands out there for him/er. Pick one, stick with it til the pup can do it. You don't want to confuse the pup. Still remember their attention span is not very good. But, there are exercises to work on that also. Good luck

Start lease training now. I started Mac at 9 weeks and in a week he acted like he had been doing it for ages. Also, as soon as he has his parvo shots start socializing him with other dogs. Mac has not seen a dog or cat he doesn't like. Don't expect a lot from him at this age but small things like lease training, fetch and games are fine. Patience is the key. Good luck. They learn fast.

Thank you for your replies! Bailey seems very smart. She is now 10 weeks and she too walks on the leash like a pro. She knows her name/NO/where to potty... She also knows sit very well. I guess that was why my question popped up in the first place. She caught on to sit like no bodys business. I just dont want to rush her into other things because I want her to be a puppy. Thank you again for you advice!
