Leash tugging Well, Angel is usually a calm, well-behaved dog, but I've run into a problem. She bites the leash and tugs when we start to speed up a bit or when the leash is within her sight. It used to only be when we were picking up speed, but now it's a lot more often! I have been taking her to agility one hour a week for 5 weeks already. She knows how to do to the obstacles, but all of a sudden she gets tempted to bite the leash. It's awkward and funny when she tugs the lead and does her jumps and everything else simultaneously. I have tried hot sauce and bitter end. Vinegar seems to work. My instructor suggest that I switch to a lighter lead. How about ya'll? Any suggestions? Anyone have/had this problem?

yes switch to a chain leash ! works every time! then when she is no longer playing and tugging at leash, switch back to your regular lead! may take about two weeks but works every time for me! ------------------

My Rottie did the same thing. snap the leash in a snapping wave and "growl". It worked for me, it also programs them to stop whatever their doing when you "growl". Growl doesnt mean grrrr like a dog. more like aahhh! Like correcting a child.

Put "BitterApple on the leash. When you take him/her on the leash if they try to bite the leash they will get an awful taste and mostof the time, (not always) will stop biting on the leash. Also I used the prong collar until he would walk and heel, fast or slow the way I wanted him too. Once learned this I have put the Prong Collar away.

use your left hand on the lead to keep it on the back of her neck so it doesn't loop down in front where she is tempted by it.

Thank you all so much. I have tried bitter end, which usually works but sometimes doesn't. I don't have a chain lead, but I tried a choke collar we have and made it into a leash. She disliked the taste. That seems to work. Once again, thanks. I'll keep working on this. http://www.rottweiler.net/rottie/smile.gif Halle
