Determined Rottie -- Any Suggestions??

My rottie will be 8 months on Tuesday (8/29) and her determination is making me hoarse! LOL Despite all my efforts to get her to stop jumping up on me while I'm sitting on the couch ... she just won't listen! I have put her down & told her no in my "firmest" voice ... doesn't work, she just jumps right back up. I have put her down, swatted her on the butt & told her no ... doesn't work, she's right back up there! I know she's smart and knows what I am telling her ... she just won't do it! She hasn't had any "formal" training yet. She is enrolled and her start date is Sept. 23rd. We are having her trained by a police officer who trains police dogs & trains on the side. He didn't want her until she was closer to 9 months (something about Rotties not fully maturing until they are 3 yrs ... but I didn't understand why 9 mos was the magic number!). In the meantime, my husband has suggested we get a "training collar".

Complete Remote Training System and Video
designed for both professionals and the average pet owner, this Radio Systems remote trainer includes a comprehensive training video. Unit features an internal antenna, 8 levels of correction (also has a negative tone without correction) and has a range of up to 100 ft.

I'm not sure I like that idea but the trainer didn't discourage the collar. Any suggestions?!?!
