| How to train to walk properly in the show ring (head up, etc. :) ) Hi Everybody, My dog is now very good in stacking but I think I fail or I forgot when I train him before is how to properly walk in the show ring (Head up, etc.). His gait is very good but it is more nice looking if the dog is head up when walking.... any suggestions.. Thanks a lot. Charlotte ------------------ Mr. Charlotte M. | You can keep your dog's head up by keeping his show collar high on his neck. When stacking it is important for the head to be up and you can use bait to accomplish this. When a dog has a correct gait they don't hold their heads unnaturaly high, but the collar placed correctly would prevent the head from dropping too low (as in trying to sniff the ground). ------------------ Carol Darrlburg Rottweilers |

| Practice your stacking in front of a mirror. Even when stacked, if you have the head up too high, you can make the topline look bad by putting a break behind the whithers. The neck should have a nice arch so that the sholders and whithers remain correctly placed. And yes, you must allow the head to move forward when the dog is in a trot or you restrict the front reach. Unless your dog is ground-surfing it is nice to move on a loose leash. You can see an extreme example of strung up dogs moving in the fox terrier ring and you will notice how choppy that front end looks. Now most terriers are straight-fronted anyway, but this is not what we want in a Rottweiler. |

| You can hire a pro handler to teach your dog to pose and gait properly. Everybody who shows regularly always hire a handler to train the dogs and show the dogs at the shows! Thanks. TonyPinoy |

| Look at how the pro handlers handle the dogs at the dog shows. Pay attention to what their hands do. Now if you wanna become as better than them, you have to practice, practice and practice at the shows. |
