For just general obedience basics I like Purely_Positive_Training by Sheila Booth.
I think The_Culture_Clash by Jean Donaldson, while not an obedience book per se, has good information about dogs, how dogs think, and also some training information. Play_Training_For_Dogs, by Patricia Burnham is also good, but not as recently updated, and it has been awhile since the last time I read it (loaned it to my sister 7 years ago).
I think you can find these online at amazon or barnes and noble - for certain you can find them at dogwise.

I agree with Lisa. The Culture Clash is highly recommended. I am just now finishing it.
