Rottweiler Rescue Congratulations! You've decided to adopt a Rottweiler! Talk to fellow adopters, rescue groups and those who offer guidance and support. What does a rescue group do? How is a dog prepared for placement? Is this dog a good match for me?

14 week old female needs home!!!

Hi all,

I adopted my female rottweiler Onchu from a wonderful woman in Ohio about 2 or 3 weeks ago.

She STILL cannot find a good home for my baby's sister.

She is a beautiful pure bred rotweiler. When I adopted my puppy - her and her sister were identical. Now my puppy is almost 14 weeks old and weighs about 25/30 lbs. She is VERY smart. We have taught her to sit, go in her crate, go up and downstairs, go to the kitchen. She is a DREAM of a puppy.

If anyone is interested please let me know asap. The woman will be in NJ this weekend (I think) and then will be back in ohio.

I will give you her email address if you send me a PM.

You know, this is going to sound bad, but I do not know. I think she is a private GSD rescue? Sorry guys :(

Okay, let me ask this...did you sign a placement contract, and was the money you paid considered a donation back to the rescue or did it go into her pocket? Also, was your pup current on all vaccinations and spayed before turned over to you?

Sorry, for all the questions, but so many people call themselves rescues, when in reality they are doing this for profit.
We only started asking which rescue as we get so many calls from Ohio for dogs that need help, and no one from that area ever responds. This is not only for adult rotties but for pups. If this woman is a bona fide rescue, then we would like to know who so we can include her on our list.
As you have probably figured out by now, I have a rescue, Recycled Rotts, in Illinois.

I did not sign a adoption form - but she was UTD on shots, was on setinal and Heartgard, tail docked, dewclaws removed.

What happened was that she picked up a female rottweiler at a pound - and 59 days later she had a litter of 8 puppies. The original rescue did not offer her any help. She placed the puppies herself.

I don't know if she actually runs a bonified GSD rescue - but I know she does "rescue". She was great though so I do not want anyone to think ill of her. She provided me with a lot of breed info and pamphlets.

She did hand over all vet records ad well.

No she is not spayed - I forgot to mention that, but she is also 14 weeks old. I will have her spayed at 6 months like I did for my other girls :)

there's something really fishy about that - since the dog would have gotten pregnant at the shelter. She certainly had plenty of time to spay her tho. YOu can safely and easily abort a litter til 4 wks, and actually do it much later.

I agree with Dale Green Young... very fishy.
She had plenty of time to spay the female taken out of the shelter.
Her not making you sign a adoption contract is even fisher!!!
Does she have a charity lisence???? Did you get a receipt for the pup????
What happened to the mother of your pup??? I'm hoping she was not pulled out of a shelter to become a "baby machine":o

I know you love and care for your pup, but I do wonder about this "rescue".
A ligitimate rescue makes you fill in a application to see if you make a good adopter... did she make you do this???
Even if she does another breed rescue... she should have some paperwork.

I know a woman last year that would drive around Ontario and go to all the pounds and shelters and "rescue" breeds that were popular (labs, golderns, border collies, etc,) bring them home, clean them up and then advertise as a rescue... she charged $250. a dog. That's what she did for a living!!!!!
Let us know what you think.

And how did this "rescuer" know that these were pure rottie pups? I don't know about the rest of you, but when we have a mom and pups, and the dad is unknown we are at least honest and tell our adoptors that we can't be 100% sure that the pups will pure rotts. Most of us in rescue know that what looks like a rott at 3 months could turn out to be a shep mix by 6.
I also agree with Dale, this mom was at the beginning of gestation and could have been safely aborted. This woman knew this, yet she allowed another litter to come into an already over populated animal world. She is no better than the average backyard breeder.
Please delila understand none of this is being said as a slam to you. In the sense of the word, you did rescue your little girl. You have a great pup, and you love her unconditionally. I wish we had more people like you. This is all being said as a warning to others that there are people out there, posing as rescuers. These are the people that give rescue a bad name. Don't forget, anyone will be super nice when they are about to get $225.00. I hope she is still has nice when there is a problem and you need help.

Here is the story.

The parents of my puppy were owned by a man in Ohio. And yes - BOTH parents were rottweilers. He was evicted from his apartment - and kept both of his dogs in the same room when he was moving out. The mother is 7 years old so he thought she could not get pregnant. When he moved he brought the dogs to the humane sociaty. The woman I delt with adopted the mother. 59 days later puppies came. The reason she sdopted the mom in the first place was because she was emaciated.

The father was PTS at the shelter - she did go back for him but she was too late.

The mother is now spayed.

I do not know this person personally so I do not know much more. In the end - I have my puppy, and her sister is now spoken for.

Thank you for your concern.
