Rottweiler Rescue Congratulations! You've decided to adopt a Rottweiler! Talk to fellow adopters, rescue groups and those who offer guidance and support. What does a rescue group do? How is a dog prepared for placement? Is this dog a good match for me?

Re: SO excited!!!

Congrats on your new dog! He sounds wonderful. I'm sure once he settles down, grows up, and gets training and consistent treatment, he'll be a terrific dog.

Joan is likely spot on about how he ended up in rescue. It happens with heartbreaking frequency--naive, ill-informed family get a cute Rottie puppy who they don't train. Behaviors in the puppy that could be overlooked simply can't be overlooked in a 70-80 lb dog. The solution is to ditch the dog.

Best of luck with Apollo. He sounds like a very nice young boy.

Re: SO excited!!!

I am also so glad it worked out. Being diligent with obedience training, boundaries and being consistent will go a long way with him and making him a wonderful companion. I got both my dogs from Joan one at 8 months the other at 16 months. Both needed A LOT of structure and direction. At any rate, while it might take her a bit to reply, she has always offered support in answering a question or suggesting nearly any curve ball I have been thrown as an owner.

My mom is a bit more enthusiastic, after hearing about him. She will meet him this weekend, and after that I'm sure she'll be "converted" too, LOL!
