Pet rottweiler savages owner to death in horrific street attack | the Daily Mail

Doesn't look like a Rottie to me. Why does the media do this?

That does not look anything like a rottweiler in the photo, maybe a pitbull we just had 2 loose pit bulls kill a horse down the road from me

I think this is the same post in the chit chat corner. I think they are a little confused about the dogs breed though....

To create confusion??? Because they really don't care what kind of dog it was so long as they can stick a breed and photo that will arouse fear and panic and more drama rather than correctly passing along information?

Re: Pet rottweiler savages owner to death in horrific street attack

In the blurry street photo, it does look like a Rottweiler, but the quality is so bad it's hard to tell.

The caption under the head shot says "Savage: The man died after being mauled by his Rottweiler - similar to the one pictured". The dog "pictured" seems to be the news organizations interpretation of a Rottweiler from an image archive, not a picture of the dog in question...... and it looks more like a pit bull to me, too.

Re: Pet rottweiler savages owner to death in horrific street attack

I live in London and the lastest news is that the owner collapsed and all this loyal dog was doing was trying to wake its owner, and without realising its own strenght done more damage than good.Passers by made up there own minds and decided it was attacking the man,but a local shop keeper who witnessed the incident has said on live tv that the dog was just trying to help its owner and was no way mauling him like some of the trashy papers said. And yes it was a Rottie.

Re: Pet rottweiler savages owner to death in horrific street attack

I also posted this in the other thread:

The story seems to be that the man collapsed, the dog was licking and nudging him trying to wake him up and when he didn't it got a bit agitated and started biting him (I will not try and guess how hard but was probably gentle, at least at first). Then a crowd gatered and started beeping car horns and hitting the ground with sticks (baseball bats was mentioned in one report).

Well that would have the dog thinking they were attacking it/his owner, no wonder it got aggressive.

Then a police man fired a fire extinguisher at the dog (he's somehow being seem as the hero) and then the dog was shot dead as it was "dangerously out of control", well after what had just happened to in in this whole sequence of events is it any wonder.

The only good thing I can see out of this is that the dog had only a short wait at Rainbow Bridge.

The biggest problem has as usual been the sensationalism of the reporting making the breed look bad again.

I don't think either dog or owner would have considered it a great way to go really

"Yesterday (a little over a week after Mr Rehill's death) the small, not entirely insignificant matter of coroner's report revealed that Mr Rehill's death has been recorded as natural causes. No inquest necessary. "

Re: Pet rottweiler savages owner to death in horrific street attack

Devil Dogs!! The movie The Omen portrays the Rottweiler as the Devil Dog, but did you know this?

"An interesting side note: The creators of the original Omen wanted to use German Shepherds as the devil dogs in the film. But the only dogs available in London at the time they were filming were Rottweilers due to a quarantine on dogs. In the remake, the dogs are still Rottweilers except for the first dog introduced which is --- a German Shepherd."

In Victoria, Australia its now legislation that tails cannot be docked.

Cant tell what kind of dog it is by the image, its so blurry.

But OF COURSE it was a rottweiler, what other kind of dog would maul its owner Stupid ignorant press!!!!

In all honesty i dont think they should be able to state the dogs breed unless they have proof (copy of pedigree stating its breed) as we all know unless you have papers your dog could be a mix....

Re: Pet rottweiler savages owner to death in horrific street attack

The dog involved in this tragic incident was a Rottweiler. Unfortunately that is where the press stopped reporting and started scaremongering.

The coroner concluded that the elderly owner died of natural causes (massive stroke). The dog then appears to have been trying to awaken the owner and did further injury. The dog was then shot by a police marksman.

A tragic event for the family of the man involved (to lose a relative and to have that relative's pet wrongly accused of savagely killing him), but hopefully dog and owner are now reunited.........

I don't suppose any of the gutter press will be printing apologies for their original stories.
