Look at some of the toys dogs can play with, how can they differenciate between a doll, a child, a toy etc.

The dog was probably never walked, stood in the back yard 'to guard' and just fills up with pent up energy. a rotty isn;t triggered to maul or attack children. Should never leave any dog with young kids.
other large breeds are left in backyards to guard ,is it only rotties that kill?
i only know of 3 fatalities in the uk due to rotties.
this number is three too high!
why do i not know of the top of my head more breeds that have attacked and killed in the uk?
perhaps i need to do more research, but for me the rottweiler seems high on the list as a child killer
ive read every excuse in the book,
would anyone go as far to say, from when the rott was bred in its early stages to so to speak carry the purse home ,has in its genes to attack and some to kill.

I agree

Lack of press coverage? Rottweilers are not the only breed responsible for fatal dog bites.

Good luck with the research..

All dogs have the ability to attack. Some are genetically more likely than others. No conclusive evidence points to a certain breed being more likely to bite. Rottweilers are powerful dogs and a bite is likely to have more severe consequences than that of a border collie (for example)

It is such a pity that all rotties are not owned by people like everyone here.

Whilst I agree on the very rare occasion a dog (of any breed) can be wired wrongly in the head and thus the inevitable will happen, in my opinion, 99/9% of these type of case can be blamed on the environment the dog is brought up in. This includes the owner's attitude to owning such a dog, the way it is trained and socialised and it's mental and physical health and well being as a result. Where these issues are lacking, then there will always be a possibility that this much maligned and misunderstood breed will react in such a way that someone will get hurt.

I am not a very intelligent person and I am very very soppy when it comes to animals. However, I have enough about me to appreciate that a rottie is not a dog to be shut away in a confined space without human contact (actually no dog should be !) and that no matter how much you love your dog, boundaries and rules need to be established as part of it's training. A responsible owner MUST spend time with their rott and ensure that all it's needs are met in order to bring up a well balanced dog. A responsible owner MUST ensure that all the members within the family and friend circle are equally trained in the raising of and co-habiting with this breed. Sadly, in cases such as these, it doesn't happen.

I feel sick when I hear about another "devil dog" incident, as it is another downhill step towards the rottweiler being unjustly classified as a dangerous dog.

Here is one of the lastest reports proposed:

Dangerous 'dog orders' proposed

A new law to control dogs deemed to be dangerous is to be proposed by an SNP MSP in the Scottish Parliament.

Alex Neil wants courts to impose "dog orders" for dangerous pets, which would ensure they are micro-chipped and kept under strict conditions.

Mr Neil, MSP for Central Scotland, says the new law should apply to all dogs who pose a danger, not just particular breeds such as pit bulls.
He claims the current Dangerous Dogs Act has loopholes which need tightened.

Current legisation does not currently apply to rottweilers, which killed a baby boy - Archie Lee - in West Yorkshire last month.

The emphasis, added Mr Neil, should shift from "breed to deed".

Over 300 people are admitted to hospital every year in Scotland with serious dog bites. The figure has nearly doubled in the last 10 years.

Mr Neil is launching a public consultation on his proposed bill and has already won initial support from the Scottish Government.
