This week in the UK a woman lost her arm to a Rottweiler :(

Woman Attacked By Rottweiler Dog Has Arm Amputated |Sky News|UK News

This is a person who works in a sanctuary and takes an unknown dog out unmuzzled. Of course I'm sorry for the person losing their limbs, but it's annoying how stupid people can be.

On the radio the kennel owner said "we know the Rottweiler breed has an unstable and unpredictable temperament", If that REALY was the case why would they EVER walk a dog unmuzzled.

Things like this frustrate me when it is human incompetence that leads to the fear and negative reactions I get from walking my dog.

Re: This weeks reputation spolier

Its now come to light that this Rotts previous owner was keeping the dog illegally.

She had previously been banned from keeping dogs for 10 years.

A tragedy for all concerned.

Re: This weeks reputation spolier

According to the newspaper(reliable?) the dog had been turned loose by its owner.

It had been in kennels 6 weeks and was thought to be 'safe'. It attacked the kennel maid when she went into its run, not while being excercised as previously thought. It grabbed at her coat when she went into its run,she thought it wanted to play as apparently she and the dog were 'friends'....but seems it was trying to floor her.

She tried to protect her neck and face, quite sensibly i would have thought, but the dog laid into her arms. She was bitten over 100 times according to the BBC news.

She has lost one arm from the elbow..they are battling to save the other.

I cannot imagine the sheer terror...it dosen't bear thinking about.

The dog wasn't chained in its run.

It must have been doubly terrible as the dog was a favorite of hers.

She was an experienced kennel maid.

The dog has been PTS.

Its heartbreaking...allready people are pointing Shanti out as 'one of those killer dogs'
I am keeping her leashed on walks right now. Poor girl dosent know whats going on, but ive only had her a couple of months, and although she appears to have a lovely temperament im going to waiting until her basic training is complete and I can have absolute faith in her.

theres something seriously wrong with the world. even dog owners we come across walk the other way sometimes etc, its completly stupid and really annoys me. usually its the armchair dog haters, no knowledge, no experience etc that calls for bans

Re: This weeks reputation spolier

the woman who lost her arm,had her story in the news of the world a couple of weeks ago..did anyone read it?

she said during the attack she could hear the dog chewing on her bones and tearing at her flesh and eating it, also drinking her blood. i found this very disturbing to read but i think the paper may have intentionally made the story worse than it was to give rotties an even worse name.

Poor dog to have such a irresponsible owners. If one of us had him, it would never have happened.

Re: This weeks reputation spolier

The media sure does like to jump on the band wagon (gorey details and all) when they hear Rottweiler in any negative light. How about turning it into a learning experience?? Like...what to do and not to do and what lifestyle can create a dog that snaps out i.e. being chained up all your life.
I agree total ignorant and irresponsible owners.
RIP Rottie Angel...your demons are gone

Re: This weeks reputation spolier

I can only 'imagine' what the dogs life would have been.....an owner who was banned from owning a dog for 10 years...MY GOD what did she do to this poor animal to send it into a frenzy!!

Yes i feel for the lady who lost her limb(s?) but had the dog been owned by a responsible dog owner this tragedy would never have happened.

I personally think the previous owner should be held accountable!

Thinking on it....imagine if this previous owner had chained the dog, beaten it and starved it and this kennel maid wore the same perfume as the previous owner....She had previous said she and the dog were friends, something may have clicked had they done something, worn something similar of the same. Just a thought....

RIP to a dog who deserved better.....

dog that attacks to this extent should be killed. maybe he wasn't well taken care of by it's previous owner, however that dosn't excuse the extent of this attack!

but couple of Q. comes to my mind... why not take precautions around this dog since she knew he was coming from an abusing setting (previous owner banned for 10 yrs)?

Excuse the extent of the attack??? are you kidding? Who said anything about excusing it. This is an ANIMAL. The poor thing is a result of nurture v nature. Poor breeding, horrible life, and bad circumstances. It is NOT the animals fault, no more so than it's the fault of someone getting killed or maimed by any OTHER animal from an attack. IE: bears, lions, elephants, crocodiles, sharks etc... How can an animal be blamed when the human is the superior intelligence ? {supposedly}
JMHO....

Re: This weeks reputation spolier

"poor thing"? are you for real?!! he was drinking blood and eating human flesh! after he snaped her bones from sholder down.... just to remind you! JUST WHAT KIND OF NURTURE DOS IT TAKES! Feeding it human flesh and bones???? don't be silly....
Are you saying that this dog shouldn't be killed? if yes... keep him alive for what?? his folt or not, he has to be put down- give me a brake will you.......

P.S. a Dog is considered to be a domesticated animal, it is stupid to compare it to "bears, lions, elephants, crocodiles, sharks"

this morning i took my 6.5month rottie, willow, for his walk. we walked past quite a few dog walkers and families and everyone was fine with him, some even stopped to pet him, then i came to two young girls with two toddlers and two dogs,as soon as i saw them i put willow back on his leader as i saw the girls faces and they looked abit worried,i then heard one of them say "that dog is a rottweiler, get the kids" so i reassured them he was only a baby and they had nothing to worry about as he was soft as muck and wouldnt know how to hurt anything.. at this point they were ushering the kids away, while trying to control their TWO dogs and clearly in a state of panic, then one of the girls said "just keep that dog away from us". this really upset me, but why should i put up with comments and reactions like that just because i chose a beautiful, strong, loving breed of dog????
i could have made a comment back to them, that they shouldnt try and control 2 dogs (which were off the lead), also two toddlers which werent in reigns..that is an accident waiting to happen and they have the cheek to try and make me feel uncomfortable, and i am the reponsible one in this story!!

it is the media's fault in this country, nicknaming rotties "devil dogs" and so far this year there has been alot of stories of rotties attacking and killing children and adults, but they dont print the full story, and now people like us have to deal with people crossing the street when they see us coming with our beautiful dogs or thinking it is acceptable to be cruel to us or shout comments, why dont they ever print nice stories about the nice things
our rotties do???????

Re: This weeks reputation spolier

Indeed I, and I guess most people on this forum have had many similar experiences.

My latest this morning was the lady with 2 dogs, one a boxer, not sure of the other, and when we approached she put her dogs on the lead. It turns out this was due to her lack of control with her dogs; as we got closer both her dogs started snarling and pulling and it was all she could do to hold them back.

I was of course very wary as I passed them but all that Zakk did was to walk past them calmly whilst only glancing at them once as if to say "whatever". Just goes to show the breed is irrelevant.
