Chained Pet gets loose attacks 4 family members Seattle, WA

Family Pet? NOT! At least the poor animal is out of it's misery. I'm sorry the family members were hurt, but it sounds like they shouldn't have had the dog in the first place.

Pet dog attacks 4 family members

By Christina Siderius
Seattle Times staff reporter

Four family members are in the hospital after their dog got loose from
its chain and attacked them this morning in Yakima County.

A responding Yakima Sheriff's deputy fatally shot the dog, claiming
the animal was trying to attack her when she arrived at 9051 Evans
Road near White Swan at 9:15 a.m., according to the Yakima County
Sheriff's Office.

The dog, a Rottweiler mix, first attacked the family's small child,
who was playing in the yard at the family's home.

The mother attempted to rescue the child, but was also attacked. She
and the child tried to go back into the house, but the dog followed
them inside and injured two other family members.

The four were taken to Yakima Memorial Hospital, but the extent of
their injuries was not released by the sheriff's office.

Yakima County Animal Control is investigating the events.

Geez, I 'm so sick of people tying up dogs, it isn't even funny. They should be forced to do minimal 100 hours of community service at an animal shelter so they get some 'dog sense.' It's like having a loaded gun and throwing it around then be surpised when it goes off. gah.

I am also sorry this happened. It is sad for so many reasons. I am also mad that it is always a Rottweiler mix. What is it mixed with? Lab? Then why isn't it a Lab mix that attacked the family. People are always so sure it was Rottweiler that attacked even in a mix breed. Just another statistic and one step closer to breed ban. I am hoping for a chaining up ban instead. What kind of a person chains a dog up in the back yard and expects it to be a safe social animal? I wish the lawmakers would see it is bad homes and not bad breeds. Hopefully the people will be alright, and never get another dog.

It makes me mad also that the dog get blamed when people are so ignorant about owning and training dogs. I cant imagine chaining a dog in the backyard, why have it in the first place?
