FRANKLIN LAKES -- A Paterson man who allegedly abandoned an injured dog in Franklin Lakes has been charged with cruelty to an animal following a one-week investigation, Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli said Wednesday.
Remgio Rincon, 61, of Franklin Street, Paterson, was arrested May 17 following a one-week investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Animal Cruelty Task Force.

The dog, a 9-month-old Rottweiler, had animal bite marks on its scalp when authorities found it, said Ike Gavzy, an assistant Bergen County prosecutor.
"The injuries were only on its scalp," Gavzy said. "We are suspicious about how the injuries were caused."

Gavzy said the investigation was continuing but declined to elaborate.
The dog was found in Franklin Lakes at 11 p.m. on May 11 after a resident called authorities, Gavzy said.

The dog showed signs that it had been attacked by an animal or animals, Molinelli said. It is now recovering at an animal shelter in Wyckoff, where it is in serious condition.

Rincon, identified as the owner of Remy Auto on Summer Street in Paterson, was released on his own recognizance after his arrest. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.

If convicted of the cruelty charge, Rincon faces up to five years in prison.

Re: Man charged with Abandonment

So he abandoned the dog and then it was attacked? Sorry if i got that mixed up. If so, good riddens to the owner hope he gets all 5 and I hope this type of punishment catches on.

Poor baby. May he recover soon and find a good home.

"A Paterson man who allegedly abandoned an injured dog," I believe he abandoned it AFTER it was injured. Sounds suspicious to me!
