Another Attack because of a careless owner

Not sure how many of you live in the Bay Area of California but this was just listed on the news website.

This person obviously didn't have control of her dogs and Unfortunately all the close calls have led to the ultimate disaster.

From the story -
Quote:
While pit bull attacks have made news over the past several years, Rottweilers are responsible for 75 percent of all fatal dog bites, Charter said.
Where did that statistic come from?

GRRR. Hate that kind of throwing around numbers. Take a look at the chart under the third bullet mark at this link:

Dogbites Bibliography

which is from the CDC. There's lots of good statistics out there available with a google search. But what people hear, unfortunately, is some animal control officer in the field just throwing out numbers.

I read that 75% and thought "what?!" It came out of left field and seemed like the reporter put it in as an afterthought. I also realize the reporter attributed the quote to the individual, but what ever happened to fact checking?

That is a great site Observer. I did also note the atricle 2 articles below the one you mentioned, concerning fatal attack statistics. Seems to me that the stronger the dog, the deadlier the attack.
The media, in my opinion, are likely to use the second article; like the one I mentioned, to skew opinion and overlook the real issue...chained, neglected, and un-neutered...as noted in the article you mentioned.

So true!!!! I wish these things were more emphasized rather than the breed. But then where would the SCAPEGOAT be?

Look at the wolf-hybrid stats! Howcome we dont hear a whole lot about them in the media? They have claimed their fair share of victims.

Re: Another Attack because of a careless owner

How terribly sad for all involved. Again, someone who owned this fabulous breed and had no business having one let alone two Rotties. There's a man in my neighborhood who is an accident waiting to happen. He and his Rottie have terrorized the neighborhood due to his ignorance. He will actually tie this dog up, a 3 yo male on a parking meter while he frequents stores. This was done while kids were getting out of school and walking past this dog. We have 3 local schools here. That's a lot of kids. This dog has broken his leash and attacked another dog. Now I hear this guy has gotten a female pup, not sure what his plans are but he definitely shouldn't own one, never mind 2 dogs. I had the misfortune to meet him and his dog with my own pup and it wasn't pleasant. (Thats another thread) Anyway, it's a tragedy for that child, his father and those 2 dogs. Nobody wins due to ignorance.

Agree; complete rubbish.

As to the story itself: "the dogs weren't neutered" As if that has anything to do with it. I know, they say all dogs need to be neutered so they are less agressive, but that is complete BS.

Of course the dogs loose; they are put down. When are we starting to put down people who end up in a fight in a bar and put other people in the hospital?

Re: Another Attack because of a careless owner

When I read the 75% It just made me angry it's not true, and this guy shouldn't be allowed to own dogs, let alone a Rottie when he's not making an effort to control, train and maintain his dog. such a terrible thing that had to happen.

It is part of the AR agenda to end all pet ownership. If everything is spayed and neutered, then there will be no pets. The AR's are doing a masterful job at sales and marketing. Right now one of their methods is to convence the public that intact dogs are automatically dangerous dogs. The media is lapping it up and doing their part to help with the deception that intact dogs are dangerous.
