Cool Update on Sugar, the abused Rottweiler

Posted with permission from the Humane Society; Sugar's update is on the main page.
Fairfield Area Humane Society :: Lancaster, OH :: Adopt a dog, puppy, cat or kitten today!

I just called and talked with one of the helpers at Fairfield Area Humane Society. She told me that Sugar is healing well and as we were talking, the owner of FAHS came in with Sugar and Sugar was pestering the person to whom I was talking for some lovins! We discussed how amazing it is that Sugar is not scared of people at all... Does that not show a heart of pure love? How could an animal that was so obviously brutally abused not have a fear of people? Sugar has become the mascot at FAHS and the owner, Bill, takes her everywhere he goes. Sugar follows him everywhere and enjoys all the attention and affection that she gets from him.
I told the girl that I spoke with about all the support from RDN and she wanted me to thank all of you who sent along well-wishes and prayers for Sugar. She told me that she would welcome a visit from Tara and me, so I think we may make the trip down there next weekend, the 21st, to say hello to her. The girl I spoke with told me to let RDN know that I was coming for a visit and she said that I could bring along any notes of good cheer, so feel free to post away. I'll print it out and take it along with me!

I know her story touched you deeply - how great that you will get to meet her.

Please send my regards to Sugar and the wonderful caretakers she has looking out for her.

Re: Update on Sugar, the abused Rottweiler

Hope Sugar continues to rehab well! It sounds like the only area they don't need to work on is that beautiful signature rottie heart! I hope you have a great visit...what an inspirational story...people who really DO care and all that have reached out to help Sugar have a chance at a wonderful life! Please extend personal thanks to all that have helped her recover and noticed that special rottie wiggle...signature to the best breed on four legs!!!! Have Tara deliver special wishes from all the RDN doggies who are so happy she is here and doing so well....Tina

I hadn't been aware of this story....I am sorry for all Sugar's suffering..what was done to her was horrendous and unthinkable, but I am also glad that Sugar's path led her to the Fairfield HS. God bless all those that have helped this girl. Please give Sugar a huge hug for me...she is truely a beautiful and courageous girl.

Troy,

I read this story when you first posted about it. It brought tears to my eyes and I can not believe how cruel this world can be. I thank god this precious girl was able to come out of the surgery with success. She truely is an amazing girl with so much love to offer people. I wish her a life of love and happiness. I hope from this day forward she will be spoiled rotten which is what she deserves.

I want to give credit for the first post about Sugar to LavenderRott. She had initially posted about Sugar's plight, but her post had to be removed. Like Lisa said above, this story reached right in and grabbed me by the heart and refused to let go, due in large part to Sugar being a Rottweiler and it happening only 2 hours from my home. Like you, I couldn't believe what I was reading; that someone had beaten this dog so brutally and then refused to get treatment for her. Not only was my heart broken for Sugar, but it really left me feeling sad and ashamed for humanity's sake. Then I got to read about the outpouring of love FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD for Sugar, and humanity redeemed it's self in my eyes. I have to believe that, for all the hurt and suffering that we read about or see in the news, there truly is a greater good that we don't get to hear about, simply because it doesn't seem to be as newsworthy as the painful stories. I want to get out the word of that greater good, and that Sugar is not 'holding a grudge' against people for abusing her so thoroughly. She has the capacity to forgive and love with all her heart. It reminds me so much of another story that we have all heard...

God Bless Sugar and all the wonderful people who are caring for her. It is comforting to know that in this day and age, and with all that is going on in the world, that there are still people who truly care.

Re: Update on Sugar, the abused Rottweiler

I have never heard about Sugar before this thread. I am angry that someone could do that to any living thing, I am so sad for the dog haveing had to go threw that,I am so glad she is doing better and I am thankful for all who have helped and continue to help her. Sugar is a very special soul to be able to love after all she has been threw and when I find it hard to forgive I shall think of her.

Re: Update on Sugar, the abused Rottweiler

Oh my god, i can honestly say i am some times ashamed to be part of the so called human race. I had never heard about Sugar until now, just looking at that sweet darling face has reduced me to tears. My husband is working tonight and i know that when i wake him in the morning and show him these pictures he will also cry, thank god that there is people out there to look after her.Im going to go now and give my Bailey Bear the biggest hug ive ever given her.Sorry going on a bit , but that has really hit a nerve, if there is a hell that person responsible is sure going to go there.

Re: Update on Sugar, the abused Rottweiler

I just got home from a weekend with the National Guard, and I am so very glad to hear that Sugar is doing so well!

Hopefully, whoever gets to adopt her will become a member here and she will become part of the RDN family.

Re: Update on Sugar, the abused Rottweiler

I'm so glad to hear Sugar is doing better. Send along puppy kisses from Pandy and Serena. When they saw her picture they gave me this look like how can anyone mistreat their dog? They wagged their tails when I told them she was doing better though.....

Cool Re: Update on Sugar, the abused Rottweiler

Just wanted to give this a 'bump', as tomorrow is the trip down to see Sugar, so if anyone else wants to send along some well wishes for Sugar and thanks to the FAHS, you'll have until tomorrow at 9 AM to post here before I print it out and take it along! I can't wait to get to meet this courageous girl! I was going to inquire about adoption, but it seems that she is now going to be FAHS's mascot and one of the humane officers, Bill Huffman (who I had misidentified as the owner of FAHS in my OP), will be teaming with Sugar to do shows and lectures to bring awareness to abused animals. I can't help but think that when people see the gentleness in Sugar, especially after the abuse that she took and still loves people, that not only will she be able to show what can be done for such an abused dog, but she will be able to show the true heart of a Rottweiler and how they long to be with people!
