Re: Update on Sugar, the abused Rottweiler

I fell in love with Sugar the first time I saw her. I still can't believe the cruelty of the human society but I think its a perfect ending to a sad story. Not only will she be with people who will love her but she will join the cause

Proof once again that the heart of a rottweiler (with the love and care they all deserve) is a marvelous thing. Bless everyone who shared a helping hand.

Sending all good thought and Prayers to Sugar and a great big hug with wet kisses from Ralph. What an outstanding job to the staff and friends at FAHS.

Wow, I'm sitting here in tears (glad I'm not working today)!

This is so awesome, no doubt Bill will give her all the love and affection she so rightly deserves! Bless his heart for opening it to Sugar and for recognizing what a story she has to tell, both for awareness of animal abuse, but also for the gentleness of the Rottweiler.

Enjoy your visit!

Thank you to Bill Huffman, FAHS, Dr. Bergh, O.S.U. and all the others that helped this girl to become healthy and happy!

Re: Update on Sugar, the abused Rottweiler

This story truly horrified me...as do all animal abuse cases...I will never understand how anyone can abuse animals(or anything for that matter)Just when you think it's safe to read a little news...I need to get this post done quickly before I start crying again.

Please give Sugar a BIG hug and kiss from me..doggie kisses from Shadow too....such a strong, loving soul...truly an angel to not have anything but love in her heart...And to the people who have helped her..Thank-you so very much for helping this beautiful soul..(big cyber hug)..Thank God for the good people in the world..This ol world just wouldn't be worth living in without the kind souls....with two and four legs...

Re: Update on Sugar, the abused Rottweiler

Ok, we are on the way to see Sugar! We're taking along a sheep's wool squeaky toy and some soft treats for her, as well as a camera so that we can post pics of our visit!

Thank you all for your kind words of encouragement for FAHS and for Sugar. They will be appreciated!

Cool Re: Update on Sugar, the abused Rottweiler

I apologize for not posting back here after my trip; Sugar's new owner, Bill, has decided to become a member here on RDN! You can read his new member introduction here; http://www.rottweiler.net/forums/mem...ugars-dad.html

My trip to meet Sugar was very uplifting. Not only did I get to see the dog that has caught so many people's attention and heart, but I got to meet Bill, her new owner. He has lavished the love and care on Sugar that she so much deserves, and Sugar has bonded with him. She is a real sweetheart; she loves all the attention that she is getting at the shelter and she really loves her butt skritches! Sugar has no aggression towards people, which absolutely amazes me after the abuse that she suffered at the hands of someone. She also is happy to be eating some soft foods, instead of having to suck in nutrients from the area where some teeth were knocked sideways out of her mouth; I took some soft liver treats with me that I use for Tara's training sessions, and Sugar loved them! I keep them in a ziplock baggie, and after the first time I opened the bag, Sugar associated that sound with the treats, and every time afterward that I even touched the bag, Sugar stared at my jacket pocket in anticipation of getting a yummy treat. She knows 'sit', so I had her sit before I gave her the treat, but if she hadn't listened, I would have given her the treat, anyway . I left the bag of treats with Bill so that Sugar could enjoy them. She does have a hard time keeping them in her mouth because of the damage that has been done to her, and the fact that her tongue was atriphied due to lack of use, but I think that she will gain more use of it as she gets stronger. She is still very thin, but Bill said that she has put on 10 pounds since she arrived at the shelter, and she seems very strong... I believe that is her heart of a survivor. She has no problems getting around at all and she is very spry.
I have some pictures that I will post in this thread tonight after I get home from work; I did post a few in Bill's member introduction thread, but I didn't want to take away from members welcoming him at all, so I opted to only post 3 pictures in that thread.
Bottom line, my trip to visit Sugar was fantastic, and I am very happy that she and Bill are now united. They seem to be a perfect fit for one another, and I couldn't be happier for Sugar (unless, of course, she was at MY home...) but I know that Sugar will have an easy life from here on out.

Re: Update on Sugar, the abused Rottweiler

Here are some of the pictures that I promised I'd get posted... You can clearly see the damage done to her skull by her previous 'owner'. You can also see where her fur was shaved to prep her for the surgery.

Re: Update on Sugar, the abused Rottweiler

In this batch, I included one of my favorites; Sugar LOVES her haunches scratched, so I was oblidging. She backed up and actually sat on my leg at one point! (that photo is in Bill's 'Member Introduction' thread)

She is a beauty in her special way; a heart of gold and a personality to match! To me, the shape of her face and the scars that she will carry with her for the rest of her life make her even more beautiful. It just proves how much love and forgiveness is in her heart. The only time that she was grumpy at all was when my Tara got too close to Bill; that is Sugar's dad and Sugar was making sure that Tara knew that!
