Wink Rottweiler Shot by Police saved by Good Samaritan

SAN DIEGO -- The veterinarian bills for a dog shot by police earlier this week have been paid for by a good Samaritan.

Officials at the County of San Diego Animal Services said the Rottweiller By-law underwent orthopedic undergoing on Friday.

An unnamed donor paid for the $2,000 operation, according to officials.

The 8-year-old dog was shot in the leg Tuesday by an officer who was chasing a man. By-law's owner, Kendell McCullough, told NBC 7/39 that his dog did nothing wrong. He also said that he thought police were going to take care of costs.

Officers said that the dog was a threat.

By-law is expected to recover soon.

Re: Rottweiler Shot by Police saved by Good Samaritan

I am glad that someone donated the money to save this dog. But it still seems to me that the police department should have paid the bill.

Re: Rottweiler Shot by Police saved by Good Samaritan

San Diego PD should just look north where Costa Mesa PD (CA) just paid $225,000 to a family for shooting their pit bull. Of course, the City Attornney said the Officers did nothing wrong.

I had a conversation with one of the K-9 Officers that works for my Department. He said that we (law enforcment) say that the use of a dog to apprehend someone is a Non-Lethal use of force. The problem is going to come up in a civil law suit, that if the Police shoot dogs because they are in fear of their life or great injury, where does that leave law enforcment? No doubt out some money like Costa Mesa. The K-9 Officers suggestion for Officers: retreat!!! (obviously depending on the circumstances)
