5 Month Baby Girl dead. Two Rotties involved (UK)

Very sad news.

Baby dies after Rottweiler attack

The attack took place at The Rocket pub

A five-month-old girl has died after being attacked by two Rottweiler dogs in Leicester.
Emergency services were called to Stephenson Drive in the New Parks area of the city at 1500 GMT on Saturday.
The baby was in the living quarters of a pub called The Rocket which is kept by her parents.
A member of the family said one of the dogs dragged the child onto the roof. She was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary but died from her injuries. Police have begun an investigation to try to find out what happened. A police spokesman said officers would be seeking a destruction order for the dogs.

The dogs were "always on the roof"?????

The story doesn't say whether they belonged to the baby's mother, or her "new partner" or ???

Very sad indeed. Sounds like the baby was left unattended. As has been said many times here, leaving dogs alone especially with small children can have tragic consequences.

Just heard on the news that the dogs had been around for a while and used as guard dogs at the pub.

A few people interviewed spoke about being afraid walking past the pub because the dogs would be on the roof and would bark at passers by. Which the interviewer added "near a local school".

No matter what the true story is… the fact is that a little girl died and that it so SAD and there will never be any excuses for that!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Next… the two Rottweilers … no matter… but again a fact… they added an other nail to the coffin of the breed!!!

I agree with Damp; there is a deceased child that we should all be mourning first, above all.
Secondly, however, here is just one more reason to require anyone who owns a large breed dog with a high prey drive to take their dog to obedience classes for a certain period of time. The owner should have to pass a written and field trial exam, just like driving a car. Owning a dog is a priveledge, and not something to be taking lightly. Requiring people to be tested would be a good way, in my opinion, to weed out the responsible owners from those who want to project some sort of macho image.

No one is saying that mourning the child's death doesn't come first. The fact that it was a senseless tragedy that could have been avoided doesn't change that.

Re: 5 Month Baby Girl dead. Two Rotties involved (UK)

So many horrible stories lately. How sad this little girl will never grow up. I am sure that if the parent sare the dog owners, they will punish themselves forever for this. It does however not just involve them , but Rottweilers everywhere. When I hear the term "guard dog" for a shop or in this case a pub- unsocialized on purpose comes to mind. They wouldnt have got a Golden and trained it to be a guard dog, no- because it doesnt look scary. This is truly tragic, and could have been avoided had people been given the proper tools via education- IE never leave children unattended with dogs no matter what breed. I cant even sart on the guard dog part, we should be protecting our animals. Very sad....

Re: 5 Month Baby Girl dead. Two Rotties involved (UK)

apparently the dogs owners are on holiday and the family which were there when the attackhappened were friends of the family, so i presume the little girl was not the owners baby,

this is the second story within a week about rott attacks which have hit the news in the uk,

very sad for the breed and the baby,

and its very irresponsible for the parents to leave the baby un attended with the 2 dogs in a room which has easy access to a roof??

Re: 5 Month Baby Girl dead. Two Rotties involved (UK)

this is such a tradedy, these dogs were reared as guard dogs, why on earth would
these people leave a baby unattended with someone elses dogs.the parents will greive the loss of their baby for the rest of their lives and the owners of these dogs will grieve for the loss of a grandchild for the rest of their lives, ever with the guilt that it could have been avoided, these dogs were notorious in the area for being aggresive.

and now all rottweiler owners could be punished with a ban on the breed.
i myself was given dirty looks this morning when out with Ace.ive seen the
neighbours pointing and talking.and other people have reported that stones and verbal abuse have been hurled at them walking their rotties.
i now fear for my own dog from a backlash of this from uneducated people.

Re: 5 Month Baby Girl dead. Two Rotties involved (UK)

can they actually ban the breed tho?

i hope not!, why cantthey have a certifcate process, which you have to pass a test and have home visits etc?

unless they just resorted to the ban of breeding in the country?

Re: 5 Month Baby Girl dead. Two Rotties involved (UK)

This is a tragic story and i dnt live too far away from here, this poor baby and too the baby's family.
I work in a local pub and my rottie is in with me a lot altho usually in the cellar when busy, unfortunately i got a lot of raised eyebrows yesterday and lots of people took great pleasure in telling me about how dangerous rotties can be, it is very sad for the breed, when they were starting to gain trust!

Hi i'm new here, just been reading through.. What an awfull awfull thing that happend to that little girl. I have a male rottie who loves kids but still i'd never leave him un attended with kids, its just common sense. Im sure the parents are devastated as are the owners of the dogs i would have thought..

Thumbs down Re: 5 Month Baby Girl dead. Two Rotties involved (UK)

I was shocked and dismayed to hear of the attack. Guard Dog's should not be allowed access to the general public it is completely irresponsible. Who in their right mind would allow Guard Dog's to have access to a child in the first place.

Firstly I mourn the death of an innocent child, also a lot of people in the UK dislike the Rottweiler breed anyway. What will this mean for the future?

Owning a Rottie or any other dog for that matter comes with responsibility, if you can't be responsible then don't own one!

My neighbours are treating us like pariah's at the moment, my George is a sweet (although stubborn) article, but I won't even have George around very small children.

My area is filled with pure hatred of the breed at the moment. I personally feel that the people owning the dog's should be made to face criminal charges. There is no excuse for lack of responsibility of any sort for your Rottie. It is tragic that on this occassion it has cost an innocent child her life.

i myself have already had loads of abuse from people on other forums while trying to stick up for the breed,i find that these people have the uneducated view that all rotties should be put down for what has happened,im truely shocked at the extent of peoples hatred towards my rottweiler.

im now keeping ace indoors(for his own safety)over the next few days.from what ive read of other peoples views, its like a witch hunt for these dogs.
