Police shoot roaming Rottweilers

The dog's owner, Natasha Woodard-Brady, 29, of Davenport, was later charged with allowing dogs to run at large

Lovely....more dogs paying the ultimate price for an irresponsible owner, and more bad press for the breed for those who love to generalize and paint all Rotties with the same brush.

Police said Woodard-Bradley later called to report her dogs missing and was arrested after she went to the police station and appeared to be drunk.<

I couldn't agree more. Still, I feel police officers and law enforcement officers are too quick to "shoot to kill." But, I suppose there was nothing else they could do.

Re: Police shoot roaming Rottweilers

They probably are a bit quick (there certainly have been cases of that that we have commented on here) but the shame and infuriating part of situations like this is that the dogs and the officers were put in this position in the first place.

Absolutely! Agreed! On both your comments.

Re: Police shoot roaming Rottweilers

I am sorry, but doesn't this story sound a bit exagerrated?? People are just so quick to stereotype a Rott.... "2 foaming at the mouth rotts"...come on! Maybe they were thirsty from running around....the owner should have been shot, not the dog...sorry I am ranting...that was bad to say! :-) The police were definitely too quick to shoot the dogs...don't they have any tranquilizing guns there? Bullets aren't always the answer.

Re: Police shoot roaming Rottweilers

Personaly I can understand why 2 large and powerful dogs that 'were roaming free and chasing people' could be shot. Why take the chance? You may see this as bad press but we could be reading a very different headline if the police didnt act as they did. Example, Children mauled in the park by two rottweilers....

Re: Police shoot roaming Rottweilers

Police are afraid of Rotts just like people who've no experience with the breed. I've had people call the police on me when I've been training with long lines in an empty park! No dogs, no kids, nobody around except someone in their apartment, afraid. The silver lining to that situation is all the police in my town now know my dogs are well trained and polite.
But still......living in an urban area I worry about my dogs safety.

1. SOunds like the two morons from South Park (Look, Ned, they are coming right at us!)

2. Corraled and shot. Sounds more like execution to me.

That's all I am going to say. I am too new here to overstep my bounds and say what's on my mind.
