Barking dogs

Hi All, have heard on the radio this morning that New York wish to push through legislation re noise pollution, ie traffic noise, music etc, but of more concern this will include barking dogs. Can anyone give any more info on this?

Re: Barking dogs

Hi Jory, I dont know why no one continued the thread, I thought it an issue of major importance to all dog owners, it was in the media all day long here in UK. Dangerous dogs can, to a certain extent be controlled, but barking a dog is a real problem and not easily dealt with. If legislation is passed in New York, where will it spread to next?

Re: Barking dogs

Are you talking about NY state or NY City? If it is NY City, then I agree. Anyone who lives next to a barking dog in such a high density area needs some redress.

Re: Barking dogs

I think anyone, anywhere needs to be able to have an issue like this addressed. I love dogs of all shapes and sizes, but to have to listen to a barking dog all night long isn't something I'd ever want to deal with on a long-term basis.

I don't think that having a dog bark a few times here and there would ever be considered an illegal act, but it does address more of a chronic barking situation (I haven't looked up the NY situation, I'm postulating here...).

Re: Barking dogs

From what I read in the local newspaper it was New York City. Any dog barking more than 10 minutes, the owners will be fined.

I wish they would pass that law here in my town. I don't understand how you can't hear your own dog barking it's fool head off for hours at end?

Re: Barking dogs

The only thing that needs to accompany this, is that it must be legal to have dogs debarked. Some areas have made or tried to make debarking illegal. This combined with a barking dog ordinance will put many dogs to death.

Some breeds especially and some individual dogs are quite simply barkers and training does not change that. No bark collars work with many but not all. Debarking allows those dogs to keep their homes and their lives.
