Arkansas Rottie Attacked with Hatchet

This is a cross post. I wasn't sure where to put it so move it if it's in the wrong place.

Permission to cross post

As fellow Rottie rescuers I thought you would take an interest in a horrible butchery that has occurred in our service area. The pictures in the link below are VERY graphic. Please don't pass this by. Please help Southern States Rottweiler Rescue take this poor creature to safety.

Thank you for your time.

Dear All:

I am sure by now many of you have heard the story of the Little Rock Rottie who was attacked with a hatchet on December 22nd. She was on the wrong end of a domestic disturbance gone bad. Her attacker, who lived in the home, had become upset because she was barking and began to beat on her. Another man tried to stop the beating and got his teeth knocked out for his trouble. The attacker then turned on everyone in the house who tried to defend the dog, then attacked the dog with a hatchet. I have attached photos from another rescue organization who alerted us to this situation when this girl (whom we've already named Christa - sort of a Christmas name, don't ya think?) was being treated at the vet. The first zip file shows her wounds - the second shows her the day after surgery, when she was released to Animal Control. One of the girls from the other rescue group has talked with the owner, who told her she wanted a "mean guard dog", and also that the attacker was in jail. However, a friend of mine is the assistant police chief and has looked at the police report. The attacker left before the police arrived, and the police advised the parties involved to get a warrant. No warrants have been served, and the perpetrator is not in jail as of this date.

Our understanding is that the owner surrendered Christa the night of the accident to Animal Control because she did not have the means to have the dog treated. Now she wants her back. According to the other rescue group, who has talked with the owner, and the vet's office who treated Christa, this is not a place to send this dog back to. Therefore, I am undertaking a
rescue tomorrow. Hopefully, Christa is still at Animal Control and we can do an emergency rescue. If not, I will petition the Prosecuting Attorney's office and see if I can find a judge to issue an emergency order allowing me to take custody of the dog for SSRR. If that is what happens, I will get the police to go with me to the home and take custody of Christa.

I desperately need all of you to bombard the Powers That Be in Little Rock first thing tomorrow morning. I have listed below e-mail addresses that I can find, phone numbers, and the names of the judges who may possibly intervene on our behalf.

This is a beautiful 97 lbs. female with a tremendous spirit. The pictures of her after she has been treated at the vet are ONE DAY after her attack. I have spoken with the vet's office, and they say she is very sweet and gentle.

The key to this situation is probably Mr. Ed Davis, the director of Little Rock Animal Services. He has talked with Barb Moody and seemed inclined last week to return the dog to the home. Let's all remember that the squeaky wheel gets the grease, and we need to squeak as long and as loud as we can for this girl. The Mayor is also a good contact - he is always looking for someone or something to hug for publicity. Whether or not I get
her tomorrow from the Animal Control, or if I have to get an emergency petition from the courts, I intend to notify the Arkansas Democrat Gazette of the situation, as well as my local paper. I think this will give SSRR some great press, get some folks interested, and as an even bigger plus, put
the pressure on the courts to carry through with prosecution of this individual or other individuals who feel so inclined to mistreat an animal. If the owner has not sworn out a warrant yet for animal cruelty, I intend to do so tomorrow.

Here are numbers and e-mail addresses to start pounding tomorrow. I have researched everything I can.

Little Rock Animal Services
Director: Ed Davis
Phone: 501 376 3067
e-mail animalservices@littlerock.state.ar.us
This link can also be reached through lastchancearkansas.org

The City Board of Directors can be helpful on this, too. By the way, my cousin is on the Board. He has already received a call.

board@littlerock.state.ar.us

How about the Mayor, Jim Daley?

Phone # I have the phone number if anyone needs it mayor@littlerock.state.ar.us

We don't know what court this will go to, but it will either be
Environmental Court or regular Criminal Court..

Environmental - Judge David Stewart
FAX (501) 399 3459

Criminal Court - Judge Lee Munson
FAX (501) 371 4772

If everyone who has access to a fax and e-mail, and for those of you who want to phone these people, your support would be greatly appreciated. I am sure with enough people yelling loud and long, the powers that be will cave and not return this poor dog to her original owner. But I REALLY need for ya'll to start bombarding them with e-mails and calls the first thing
tomorrow, as I plan to be there by 8:00 - 8:30. If this isn't enough info, if you want the personal #s for the Board of Directors of the city, or anything else, just let me know.

Also, I don't have everyone's name in my database - please forward to anyone you can think of that will help us. Spread the word. I'm depending on your support

Becky

The SSRR site confirms that, because of all of the phone calls and emails, Christa was placed with them today.

Good work!
