I certainly don't get that impression. I do think that as you discuss our breed with everyone here you will form a different opinion about the Schomberg's. Welcome to the forum.

So, if until ONE year of age, your pup has no symptoms of any of the 'guaranteed items, you're all set...but what about for the life of the dog?? A REPUTABLE and ETHICAL breeder would make sure the pups parents, grandparents and great grandparents going back at least FIVE generations we free of gentic faults such as HD, ED, heart and eye problems BEFORE breeding to ensure the pups brought into the world are healthy. If the Schombergs want more $$, buy more hogs and breed them... the world needs more ham, bacon, sausage and other decent pork products, not more badly bred rotties...we got enough of them from Kimbertal.

I don't care what vet told you 160 pounds is healthy - very well could be healthy - just not BREED STANDARD for the rottie...breeding huge rotties is setting the buyers up for heartbreak when the dogs develop hip and elbow and other joint problems due to being gentically engineered to be huge and way out of standard....long after reaching one year of age...

I have read the posts done by mercedes and her pup was given to her at 6 weeks. Well I got my pup at 6 1/2 week and I have went to 3 different vets to get opinions on if they felt that the Schombergs were giving there pups to people to early and every vet I went to said that they saw no problem with that. One of the vets here in Milwaukee is a very well known Vet which specializes in cancer dogs and other more specific illnesses.

The vets stated as long as the pups are in healthy condition there will be no problems. I had also asked the Vets about her parents weight with her father being 160Ibs and all the vets stated if there is definition and you can feel there ribs they are not overweight. Mokas Father is 26 inches tall which is the right hight for male Rottweilers.

I do realize that Mrs. Schomberg stated that she is selling the dogs cause she needs money since her hogs where not making any money but I do think she does have a heart somewhere for these dogs and it is unfortunate that she made that comment. But in my opinion with my experience from her I have had no problems and she has returned every call that I have made to her home and I would in a heartbeat buy another dog from her.

Also Mrs. Schombergs Rottweilers were socialized with many people she has many children and the children who have many friends so I cant say they were never socialized. Mrs. Schomberg left me run in there huge land that they have with 10 of there adult Rotts and not one of those Rotts ever tried to attack me. If those Rotts where not properly socialized with people they would have been more cautious with me considering I was a stranger entering there territory.

I am not on this forum to argue with anybody and I hope that nobody has those feelings that I am, I am just stating an opinion.

Hi MOKASMOM. Welcome to Rottweiler dot net.

Let me try to explain it to you this way, so maybe you can really understand where we're coming from here.

You see, there's a lot of people out there like me, that feel a real responsibility to this breed. Not only do we love the rottweiler, we assume a real responsibility as this breed's protectors. Having love for the rottweiler is not enough. I'm sure that Mrs. Schomberg LOVES her dogs. It's not enough. It's simply not enough.

People who share the same train of thought that I do, we take our jobs seriously as protectors of this breed. We take the time to show our dogs before judges who have an educated opinion on conformation. There IS a specific conformational standard for the breed of dog we know as the Rottweiler. If dogs are bred that are outside of that standard, (160-180lbs) then they're NOT rottweilers.
So, by breeding out of standard dogs, and giving them charming names, like "Superior Size", Mrs Schomberg and her familly are NOT being responsible in the way they breed.

While it's sad that their hogs are not a real money maker these days, spitting out rottweilers as if they were pork chops is not a reasonable substitution. Perhaps they should obtain day-jobs to support their family.

Let's move on to hereditary defects. It's already been found that one of their stud dogs was bred prior to the age of two, and before his hips had been xrayed. LUCKILY, he has good hips. But that's not good enough. Believe me. I know. The Rottweiler, as a whole, has too many health issues in this day and age. Those of us who truly see ourselves as the protectors of this breed, work long and hard to breed out these defects. People like Mrs Schomberg simply breed. It's not good enough. One person who breeds dogs in the manner that Mrs Schomberg does, and wants to do, (and by that, I mean without taking the necessary steps to give the puppies she produces the BEST possible chance for a HEALTHY LIFE), negates a lot of hard work put in by the rest of us. A puppy can appear perfectly healthy at 6 weeks of age.... as time goes by, and the pup develops.... a whole lot of hereditary weaknesses can begin to shine through. A one year guarantee is virtually useless. A rottweiler is not even finished growing until their nearly two, which is why they even be OFA'd until they reach 24 months of age. I've seen dogs that preliim'd excellent at 12 months, come up dysplastic by the age of two. You have a worthless guarantee.

Now, let's talk socialization:
This is perhaps one of the most important issues in puppy rearing, IMHO. Having one bitch whelp a litter, and raising that litter PROPERLY is a lot of work. Having 10 bitches in whelp.... holy cow. There is virtually no way that one, two, or three people even can manage to accomplish this, and do it PROPERLY.
And, it is apparent, when Mrs. Schomberg releases her pups in their 6th week, that she is A.) Lacking in sufficient knowledge, or B.) in it solely for the money, or C.) BOTH A and B.

I could go on for days here, these are but a few of the significant issues at hand. I'm sure the Schomberg's are very nice people. It's not good enough. They have no business spitting out puppies like they're coming off a conveyor belt. No way, no how.

I'm sure you have a nice pup. I hope it remains healthy. For your sake. If so, you lucked out. Again, welcome to the forum, MOKASMOM. Stick around, you're sure to learn a lot here. :)

Have a nice day.
