| Sad News All Around - Dog owner and his mother charged in child's death This happened in Pittsburgh, Pa. where I am from:
Two Rottweilers that attacked and killed a 2-year-old New York girl during a visit to her grandmother's house in Clarion County were destroyed soon after the attack.
Now, the little girl's grandmother, Kathleen Josephine Hansen, 60, and her son, Roger Allen Hansen, 35, are in the Clarion County Jail, charged in the March 16 death of Lillie Krajewski of Buffalo, N.Y.
On Wednesday, state police in Clarion charged the Hansens with involuntary manslaughter, endangering the welfare of a child, reckless endangerment and dog law violations. Involuntary manslaughter, the least serious degree of homicide, is reckless and negligent behavior that results in a death.
State police, the Pennsylvania Game Commission, state animal control officials and the Clarion County district attorney's office conducted the three-month investigation.
Roger Hansen, who lives with his mother, owned the Rottweilers. Neighbors said the dogs had previously terrorized those who lived nearby in Lucinda, a tiny rural village in Clarion, and Hansen had threatened anyone who complained about them.
On March 16, Krajewski and her grandmother were playing in the woods when the dogs got loose from their kennel. The dogs attacked Lillie so violently that she died almost immediately. |
