girl mauled

Another sad story, yesterday in Pennsylvania a 2 yr. old was mauled to death by her grandma's rottweilers (2 of them). The grandmother tried to intervene, but states the dogs turned and attacked her. She also stated she did not know how they got out of their cage.

This is a tragic ending both for the litte girl and these dogs, it's too sad this happened - This could have been prevented by putting a LOCK on that cage door while this baby visited.

Here is the story from the newspaper

A 2-year-old girl was fatally mauled by two Rottweilers that escaped from her uncle's kennel, and state police on Monday were trying to determine if criminal charges should be filed.
Lillie Krajewski, of Buffalo, N.Y., was visiting her grandmother in Lucinda, about 70 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, on Sunday afternoon when the dogs got out of their cage and attacked the girl.

The grandmother, Kathleen Hansen, tried to stop the attacks and was treated for bite wounds at Clarion Hospital before being released, authorities said.

The dogs, both adults, were tranquilized and taken to a humane society, authorities said. Clarion County District Attorney Mark Aaron said the dogs will be killed, but he did not know when.

The dogs are owned by Lillie's uncle, Roger Hansen, who refused comment Monday except to say he wasn't sure how the dogs escaped their kennel. Police told him not to comment on the case, he said.

Part of the investigation will include determining how the dogs were able to escape, Aaron said.

Lillie was pronounced dead at the scene. Clarion County Coroner Roland Burns said she suffered numerous bites over her body and face. A specific cause of death was not available, and Burns said he would not conduct an autopsy at the request of the family.

My God. If the grandma not only needed to crate the dogs...but lock the crate, to avoid disaster, something else was seriously wrong.

I read these type news stories and wish I knew the "rest of the story."

Our poor breed's reputation...at the mercy of the media reporting on "Joe Bubba's experience." Sad...

These are the situations we are faced with explaining when someone comes up and asks me "Why Rottweilers?" I worked the Twin Cities Pet Expo the beginning of this month and spent a lot of time trying to explain to scared mothers that over all the breed is wonderful, but like any breed it is how the dog is kept and raised!

You notice it said cage, probably outside dogs that jumped the fence or something like that. I cannot believe the uncle does not have more to say!

It's so not fair that stupid people are allowed to own rottweilers. We should pass a law that says, in order to own a rottweiler you must pass an intelligence test!

Right on

Right on Birdie's Mom. There should be laws banning stupid people from owning any dog! Is this two different stories. Happened at the same time, under same circumstances but one was a girl and one a boy? In any case, as soon as the words escaped from their cage appeared I became suspicious. I too would like to know "the rest of the story".As an emergency room nurse for over 20 years, I have seen many dogbites and in the end they were all due to human stupidity. The majority are not out of the blue either. We recently had a young boy killed by three Rotties in our area. What never hit the paper, some of which I cannot print because they are still considering charges, was very telling. The child was a 4 year old, living with his father and his father's friend who was left alone in a house with a female Rottie in heat while 3 other Rotties were let out of their "cage" out back by the friend. The child had been admitted to the hospital last year for social reasons and dog bites! There is more to the story as well but I am not at liberty to print it at present. Anyway, the 4 Rotties were immediately killed and a huge cry is on to ban them. A law is being considered as we speak. The father and his friend have not been charged YET! Being euthanized was very likely a blessing for the dogs. My heart aches for the life led by both the child and the dogs.
