Doberman Pinscher Club of America vs the Westminster Kennel promo ad Those of us embroiled in the Nike ad controversy, may be interested in reading the letter written by the Doberman Pinscher Club of America's President, in regards to the ad that was run prior to the Westminter's event. I'm well aware of the ad because it was aired frequently. The responsible owner's of the Dobie breed have also spent years trying to educate the public, about the positive virtues that their breed has to offer. It may not have been the intention of the writer's that created the ad, however, it does send out a message that is far from positive. kathy http://www.dpca.org/press.html

What was the ad? I didn't see it. It called Dobes "nasty dogs"?!?! Why?!?! Doesn't seem like something Westminster would approve of.

| oopsy Nice letter, too bad they spelled the word "vicious" incorrectly. The way it was spelled in the letter, "viscous", refers to a thick liquid that doesn't flow well, such as molasses. When drafting correspondence, it's really important to have more than one person with a critical eye read it. These kinds of errors take away from the credibility of the writer. Spell check won't catch errors like this.

The ad was aired on USA channel? It was black and white, with lots of short clips of dogs. There was a song going on in the background, and the same words were sometimes thrown up on the screen. Funky Dogs, something else(silly dogs, maybe?)... when it said "Nasty Dogs" It was a still shot showing a dobermans bite being examined. Lots of glittering teeth showing and the words Nasty Dogs alongside it.

The ad was aired on the USA channel and I'm certain I also saw it on the Animal Planet, up to the actual airdate of the WKC event. For whoever would be interested, the song playing in the background was "Atomic Dog" by George Clinton, a popular oldie among some club DJ's. Part of the lyrics in the song are "dancin' dogs"...the ad editor should've superimposed that line beneath the Dobie, instead of "nasty", and there wouldn't have been any controversy! kathy
