| Imagine how that dog lived, "the dog waste" in the cage? :( I hope they charge the people with a criminal offense, child endangerment at the least. |

| I was gonna say "the pitbull did it, the pitbull did it" but I didnt feel it would have been right. the Kids death is no joking matter. but you make a good point, even though a mistreated rottie can be very deadly. |

| I hope they make an effort to prove this dog is responsible. At this piont they are assuming because he was the only dog arround at the time. The headline that everyone has read here might be wrong, but it is to late, the public has'seen'another'Rottweiler Attack'and it is to late to change this. :( |

| Oh, come on people. The boys' footprints were all in the feces of this dog. This dog killed the boy. Be it by his mishandling, raised wrongfully, bred by a breeder with two mean dogs... this dog was allowed to kill a baby because the owners were ignorant and careless. How sad. Instead of focusing on the fact that another of our precious young has died, you question whether this dog in all reality did indeed kill this baby. It is sad that this breed has again suffered another injustice due to ignorant people but it is also a bigger injustice done to this small boy who probably wanted to 'play with the doggie'. :( How sad is it that this baby boy couldn't even go see/pat this dog. How sad is it that this little boy had to die due to an 'adults' ignorance. This is the truly sad thing and the truly questionable thing, not whether or not the dog did it. :(

| 06/11/2001 10:19 AM CDT This story just reeks of human adult stupidity and irresponsibility! Unfortunately a child and undoubtedly another Rottweiler have/will pay for this stupidity and irresponsibility with their lives . :(Here you have a foster home with a dangerous dog on the premises along with two adults that can’t keep track of a 5 year old. Then you have a woman who can’t take care of her own children yet she’s about to give birth to another one. How pathetic is that!? We’re going to read these types of stories over and over again because there are so many stupid, careless, irrespirable people out there that continue to propagate. It just goes on and on and on. :( [ June 11, 2001: Message edited by: K9-man ]

| Tenaj, This is a rottie forum where people may be interested in finding out what, why where and when. Its normal for people to question. I would love to know the specifics especially if it will keep my rottie from killing some kid. As for looking to blame others ie "the pitbull" it was just a suggestion that holds as much weight as any other until all the facts are known. edited : Not that I seriously think the rottie didnt do it but it doesnt hurt to ask or suggest. | Oscar's dad, See how some have the same reaction to Rottweilers as you do to a pit bull. ;) Sad for both breeds, sadder for the innocent who have to suffer due to someone's irresponsibility and ignorance. :(

| In reading the story i could not help but be amazed how a dozen or so family members and friends accompanied the birth mother to the hospital.Wonder where all the family was when this woman lost her kids in the first place.Seems a little late to care! Its a shame they only had time to care about this boy now.No doubt the law suit is being filed as we type.Good thing she is having another! |

| I think there should be some kind of screening process for potential owners of dominant dog breeds. Futher - people should be able to prove that they are financially able to spay or neuter their dog, provide veterinary care, and obedience training. Innocent dogs fall into the hands of too many ignorant people who can't manage their own lives and families much less care for a dog. Its because of unfortunate occurances like this that people like me who love the breed will never be able to experience owning one because my girlfriend has been scared off by a few idiots making crucial mistakes. My girlfriend and I saw a male rottie over the weekend - reasonably well behaved but very pushy and dominant. Scared the heck out of her. When I asked the owner what training this dog has had he said - "these are great, smart dogs, they don't need any training". Wonderful. |

| I'm sorry call me a nut but since when does a dog deserve more sympathy than a family grieving the loss of a beloved child. The article said that one of the children wandered away once and so they were removed from the mother's home. Doesn't the fact that this little boy again went outside without anyone's knowledge give creedance to the fact that it can happen to anyone. Also the article said the mother is doing everything required to get her children back, and if it were me they'd be lucky if I didn't go take my remaining child regardless of what they said. I'm sorry but the blame here lies squarely on the shoulders of the foster parents of DHS! These children were removed because the state said they could make them safer and they didn't. I have a 3 year old. If I'm not on my toes every minute she'd go out the door too. God help me when she's 5 or if I'm particularly tired. All I can do is keep teaching her that it is not ok to go out alone and hope she listens. The real blame here is not the biological mothers. My heart and prayers go out to that family.

| If she's got two and neither are living with her now, and she's supposedly trying to get them back, WHY in the world would any SANE person go and get pregnant again?? I'm sorry, but if I F'ed up and lost just ONE of my children and I was serious about getting that child back, I would not be easily swayed into creating another one. I'd be too busy doing whatever it took to get that child back! I have an acquaintance who was pregnant and lost her child to the State. She claimed she was doing all in her power to get him back. Well, if she was really doing what the State required her to do to get her son back, she definetely would not have had time to go to jail in the meantime and then get pregnant and give birth to another child...who was taken away once again. Alexa, I'm with you. [ June 11, 2001: Message edited by: Mojave's Mom ]

| Let's leave the birth mother out of this, good bad or indifferent she had nothing to do with tragedy. I don't care how well trained your dog no adult should ever leave a 3 year old child unatended with a powerfull animal as this. Would you leave a loaded gun on a table with an unattended child in the room? |

| Roscoe's Dad, I whole heartedly agree and it is law in my home that dogs and children are never alone no matter what. My only point is that this is the second time a child has been injured and some attempt at sullying the family has occurred. It doesn't matter who it is "There but for the grace of God go I" and I'm just thankful not to have to stand up to any scrutiny. We have all done things wrong and people deserve compassion not judgement.
