| DOG ATTACKS Maybe this should be posted under the General Info. forum. But I have a few things to say after reading up on all of the different stories which relate to dog attacks of all kinds. The sad but true part to almost any dog attack is that we never get the whole story. When all of the details finally do come to the surface, it is months after the fact and no one can use the information where necessary by that time. Perhaps many of you heard about the attack on the US CENSUS worker, or the young boy in KY or the lady is CA, or any number of similiar incidents. During the first reports of any of these stories, involving Rottweiler's or any other breed, you hear about "the dog" being blamed for the attack, and many times all pertinent details are left out. Upon further investigation into the majority of dog attacks (not all, but most) you will find two common problems. Two common problems that are hardly EVER ADDRESSED by reporters or anyone else. Except on this forum. #1 - There is more than one dog involved, many times three or more. #2 - The owner of the dog(s) is never anywhere to be found. On top of these two problems, the attacks always occur (almost always) somewhere that the dog has no right to be, and the owner probably has no idea where they are at. It enrages me, and it even makes me more angry that everyone fails to say these things at the time of the attack. Where in the hell is the owner?? AND why is the dog not secured at home if the owner is nowhere around?? Then, we will single out one dog to blame, when four of them could have been responsible for an accident that may or may not have taken a child's life? Ohhhh........enough said. | We all know that most dogs attacks are preventable and that most attacks are unjustified. Therefore, as long as we have irresponsible people breeding and owning powerful dogs, we will never stop hearing the one side of the story about dog attacks. However, we responsible dog owners can do a lot by not only preventing dog attacks from our dogs, but by educating other dog owners disseminating the right information ;) |

| I guess that one of my problems is when it is the dogs running in packs. Nothing angers me more than to be on a drive through the countryside and spot a pack of four to six dogs roaming freely anywhere that they want to go. I liken this to a big crowd at a concert that roars out of control and a riot breaks out. Same theory with a group of dogs, all it takes is one to START chasing the guy on the bike, and before you know it you have three or four perfectly good dogs caught up in the act, and they join in. Chaos follows. I live in an area where it is very common to let a dog run loose. In fact I would venture a guess that 8 out of 10 pet dogs in my area are not restricted in any way shape or form as to where they can go or not go. The wise ones choose to stay in the yard, the ones who don't typically don't live very long. It sickens me. If it does not kill them early, it sure does not help the unwanted population of puppies. People who let there dogs wander freely need to reconsider how much they love their pet. Would you turn your child loose with the excuse that they need the room and let them wander with no supervision whatsoever? Forget dog attacks....what about a cement truck, or a deep forgotten well, or a spike in the dirt...whatever. All kinds of dangers for a dog out there, and no one who lets them run free seems to care. They think that they are doing the dog a favor. What they are truly doing is limiting the life span of a perfectly good animal. They need to take more responsibility. I am sorry, I do not mean to beat a dead horse to death... Boy does the subject get my blood flowing... I agree with every word you post on all of these forums German... |

… but if someone one day lets his tongue run with him, I will say: I am DAMN PROUD of it and prefer it rather than… “The well-behaved woman with the mad dog”.It’s my intention to qualify to keep that name… always have a well-behaved dog and get mad, when I meet irresponsible dog owners.
