| Dog attack problems in St. Louis St. Louis has been in the news far too frequently re: dog attacks and animal abuse. The North area of Downtown is a area of poverty and all the problems that evolve. Strays are creating a safety problems at an unbelievable rate. A 9 yr old boy was recently killed at 9pm in a city park in that area several weeks ago. The cause of death was difficult to determine because of the condition of the body. The coroner stated that the boy had been killed and partially consumed by dogs. The city has responded and has assigned more personel to that area.
Many of the strays are Rottweiler mixes. The rescue that is caring for Rick, the dog tortured with acid, is located there. They do a tremendous job and I have the highest respect for anyone who can do this on a daily basis. I would think that burnout would be a constant problem. They're always in need of volunteers. foster homes or animal supplies and food or donations.
I'm ashamed to say that I have never visited the animal shelters in our area. I intend to do that. Surely I can purchase a bag of food or other supplies monthly. Maybe even volunteer occasionally. Someone on the forum once stated " I'm tired of cleaning up other peoples messes!" Sounded like burnout to me. Maybe if we got involved locally we could attempt to initiate programs similar to the St. Louis Shelter. They foster dogs and even sponser a rent a dog for a weekend. All supplies included. Check out their web-site, visit your local shelter and maybe we can make a difference. I'm tired of just complaing about the problem.
