Dog Attack
Sun 02-25-2001 , 8:12 pm

An 8-year-old girl in Milwaukee fights for her life after being attacked by three rottweilers over the weekend.

Authorities say the three dogs mauled the 8-year-old girl, biting her several times in the neck and face.
An 8-year-old girl was still in critical condition Monday. The girl, from Racine, was being treated at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Wauwatosa.

The girl was visiting family friends who lived on the south side of Milwaukee when the incident happened about 5:30 p.m. Saturday, according to Milwaukee Police Captain Ken Meuler.

Police were unsure why the dogs bit the girl because she was not a stranger to the dogs, Meuler tells 27 News. Investigators say there were three dogs in the house at the time of the incident..

The dogs were quarantined at an animal control shelter.

Does anyone know the story on this???

I live in Milwaukee and there is this talk radio guy I listen to who had a topic of should people be allowed to own rottweilers.
There were quite a few misinformed people calling in who felt rotties were all mean to the bone dogs and the meanness had nothing to do with breeding or lack of training or socialization. I fired off 3 EMails to this guy trying to explain what the downfalls are of not selecting a reputable breeder, the need for obiedence training and socilization.
1 of his replies was why do people need such a large dangerous breed. I replied that I got my rottie not for protection but companionship, and by the way why do some people feel it is nessasary to own an AR 15 with a 6 pack of 30 round banana clips.

There has also been bad press about the Rottie in WV where two rottie broke into a mans barn in the middle of the night and killed a pony. The pony was loved by the entire community, and gave rides to all the local children. The owners are heartbroken. The elderly man awakened to the noise and went and saw what was happening. He yelled, screamed threw things, but they didn't care. He went inside to get his gun to shoot them, but the gun jammed when he tried to fire it, he missed on his first shot. They ran off and haven't been found yet as far as I know. My guess is that the owners heard the news reports and they are hiding the dogs.

I will say this though, Our local area news channels and newspapers have handled this very well in my opinion. They have reported the story, but did not dwell on it and never once drifted into the breed paranoia that you see most areas do when an attack happens. They have reported that they were Rotties but they have said nothing bad about the breed or anything, so I thought that was good.
