Toddler mauled by Rottweiler: Bellingham, WA

Another knock for our beloved breed along with some poor reporting in my estimation. The link is:
http://king5.com/localnews/storydeta...?StoryID=21434

The story isn't written very well, there are very few facts about what happened, and the rottweiler is only mentioned so far as to have a shocking headline and that it did the attack.

My parents live up in Bellingham and I'm hoping they can pass on more of the story from their local new sources. In any case, I'll keep an eye out for more.

That is so terrible. It breaks my heart to hear those type stories. Especially when it rubs off on our rotties who we actually take care of. My prayers go out to that poor child. :(

Why do they put Rottweiler in the headlines?I'll bet if it were another breed or a mix they would print'DOG', MAULED BY GOLDEN doesn't sound as apealing.I'm sure dog attacks happen all the time, how come only certain breeds get the attention?oh well..... :(

Did anyone notice the last paragraph in this story, where the father say's he should have done a background check on the dog..I think there may be more to this story....

I am not validating this info, but I got it from another on-line source:

the child managed to "slip" out of the front door with the dog. Moments later the dog severely bit the child on the thigh..

How in the H... does a 17 month old child get outside by itself?? let alone with a dog??? and furthermore, what kind of freaking idiot lets a newley-acquired 3 year-old male, intact Rottweiler alone with any aged child?!?!?

I feel horrible for the child and his parents... At the same time, I would like to kick the father's A$$!!!!!

Sadly I live in SoWest Washington, a short distance away from this tragedy..The news is having a hay day, and of course the dog is going to pay the ultamite price..The big complaint in the beginning was the ambulance didnt take the child to the hospital..Why? I have no Idea..
However I would like to Quote the 911 call. The parent called 911, and said "My son was trashed by a dog", great way to ask for help...!!!!
This is HUMAN ERROR, but the dog, and our breed are going to pay the price..

The child is still in ICU, and keeping his leg is still ""iffy" So sad..and could have been avoided...
