10 Year Old Wisconsin Girl - Mauled and Killed

This is simply disgusting - a tragedy that should never had happened - Lisa (Bucky's Mom)

Child Mauled, Killed by 6 Rottweilers

By Cathryn Conroy, CompuServe News Editor
A 10-year-old girl who was visiting a friend's home in Elroy, Wisconsin was mauled and killed by six Rottweilers late last week in an attack that has left the small town of just 1,530 people stunned. Alicia Clark died from multiple traumatic injuries inflicted by the dogs. Elroy is located about 150 miles northwest of Milwaukee. According to the Wisconsin State Journal newspaper in Madison, Alicia was visiting her friend Missy McCracken, also 10 years old, late Thursday. The two were alone in the house with the dogs. When Missy's mother, Shanda, discovered the attack, she went three blocks to Alicia's home to report it since the McCracken home did not have a telephone.

Was leaving two 10-year-old girls alone with six Rottweiler dogs a punishable crime? Sound off in the Crime Forum.

Elroy Police Chief Nick Dub described the McCracken home as "a pigsty" with trash everywhere. No charges have been filed--yet. The Juneau County Sheriff's Department is continuing its investigation and has not released the names of the dogs' owners or the fate of the animals. One resident of the town told Reuters that he thinks the dogs were taken to a veterinary clinic. Police said that the charges could include negligence for leaving the children alone with the dogs, as well as health and welfare charges and dog ordinance charges

Disgusted

I live in Wisconsin and ever since this most recent attack has taken place, it has been on the news every where and making me sick.

I, for one, think that NO MATTER what the BREED is, NO Children should be left home alone with SIX dogs.

I was home sick today and my husband called me to tell me about a AM talk radio show that was discussing this topic. Of course the only people that were calling in were people defending the kid and the parents.

I agree that it is horrible that this child has died because of our breed. BUT is it our breeds fault? NO! Everyone has to look at the living conditions, the socilization of the dogs, IF they were fed lately. Also, to play devils advocate...WHAT did the girls do to provoke the dogs???? One thing we will never know is what happened to start the attack, what the girls where doing at the time and HOW MANY of the six rotts were actually involved in the attack.

I am DISGUSTED that the 10 waiting period was not adhered to and the rotts were destroyed already.

How many steps backward have we taken in our breed?

I know I am preaching to the choir...but does anyone else have any thoughts on this attack or others?

The ignorant host on the talk show actually said that Rottweilers are breed to attack, and even if the dog was two or three generations removed from the "attack bloodlines" it still has a prospensity to attack at any given moment.

He also told me (I called in) that I was NUTS to have a rottweiler as a Therapy dog and that was crazy to but people in that kind of danger.

Why Why Why are people so stupid and have so little knowledge?

Sorry...thanks for letting me vent!

I agree that this is an outrage!! And the media is having a field day with it. But as usual there is no talk of the socialization or training of the dogs. Not to mention WHY was this girl left alone with the dogs? What happend to provoke this attack?

With everything going on now with breed banning I'm afraid for my pets. I just don't understand why people can't see this as predjudism? To call a Rottweiler, Pit Bull, Doberman, or any other breed bad because of their breed is the same as calling all black people criminals because of their race or mexicans lazy or any of the other ridiculous things that are out there!!

Makes me angry!!!

This is so sad:( ...

I am a Mother and a PROUD Rottie owner
my parents live in Kalamazoo, Michigan
and have heard alot about the recent
"attacks" in Wisconsin. My father is a
Lab man but has respect for my beloved
babies.:)

I expected to catch hell from him last
night but he really stuck-up for our
dogs and believe me when I purchased
my first Rott years ago he was nothing
but tee-totally against the breed.

There has to be a way of making people
more respnsible with this AND ANY OTHER
BREED, not just the Rottweilers. I think
alot of people, myself included are kind
of ignorant to the power of these dogs.
And don't really understand the training
that is involved with them.

I have been in training for a couple of
months now and it has helped me as much
as it has my dogs. If there was a way of
making it tougher on being able to get a
Rottie or other "DANGEROUS" as they call
them breed maybe alot could be avoided.

By that I mean making them license, train and the other things that make you
a better more responsible owner. I hope
that in view of the recent happenings we
as responsible owners can make a difference.:)
