Dogs May Be Put To Sleep After Attack
A 7-year-old boy was upgraded to stable condition Tuesday after a dog attack on the Treasure Coast.

Russ Davis had what he called the "neighborhood dogs" -- two 120-pound rottweilers named Shadow and Drago. Children used to love playing with them in Davis' back yard.

Late Monday afternoon, Davis' neighbor tried to barricade the rottweilers behind the fence they already broke. When the woman went inside across the street, her 7-year-old, Jaimee Krupilis, started screaming.

"When she opened the door, the male dog was attacking the child, while the female was kissing the child at the same time," said Chuck Johnson of the PSL Police Department.

The child told his mother that Drago, the male dog, bit him and attacked when he ran.

"It's a rottweiler's natural instinct to chase someone if he runs or screams," Davis said. "There's not much you can do about that. There's no way to train that out of an animal."

Police described the boy's bite wounds as being some of the worst they've seen.

"I did tell the city to destroy (the dogs)," Davis said. "Because of the potential taste of blood in an animal's mouth and having done it once, the propensity could be there for a second situation. And I won't allow it.

"There's no way you can tell anyone what you feel in a situation like this. The biggest pain are the scars that will remain on the young boy until who knows when."

Davis has been a breeder for several years, but he said he has never seen anything close to the incident Monday.

The dogs' owner is asking animal officials to put the dogs to sleep. A decision will be made in ten days.

K-9 Man, I honestly believe that people will NEVER learn, and until the day they start, things like this are just going to keep happening, that is unless the US and Canada ban the breeds.

Man, I don't know why people are so darn stupid! And this is supposed to be a breeder who owns these dogs?? You would think that he would KNOW not to leave "neighborhood kids" alone in the yard with 2 120lb rottweilers!

I'm doing my research about Rotteilers. But it's news such as this that REALLY gets me. What happened to that child was a horrible, horrible thing. I just don't know why people leave children alone with their big dogs??? I'm afraid our breed will be banned, since this has just happened WAY too much. I'm researching to adopting a Rottie in about 2 years, but when I hear news such as this, to tell you the truth, it's scarey when you have 2 little boys! I know I would never leave them alone together, that's just common sense. Rottweilers have tons of muscle and before buying this breed I've gotta make sure I have the right situation, the right dog for us, etc. I know it won't be an easy find. Anyhow, it sure breaks my heart to hear of a child injured or killed, something that should've been avoided. It's too much to take. :(

Yesterday, while looking at Dakotas at a dealership, a salesman offered to "punch her in the face" for me!!

Both dogs were fastened with short tie-out chain to the bars in the front corners of the bed floor. Neither could their front legs over the side. Gypsy was barking loudly at this stranger with a hat on.

Some may wonder why dogs behave poorly at any given moment. I quickly became less critical of Gypsy's barking when I realized this IDIOT wanted to do her bodily harm. He said "punching a dog in the nose" always worked for him, asked me why I didn't punch her in the nose myself, made an imitation of shooting her with a gun with his hand and then volunteered to punch her for me.

Now that I realize how brainless this man is I will not trouble him about the purchase of a truck again.

Idiots are everywhere. They let neighborhood children play with their Rotties. They keep Rotties inside a fence flimsy enough to to "break". They leave their own children alone with neighborhood dogs. They PUNCH DOGS IN THE FACE FOR BARKING.

These folks should be incarcerated for FELONY STUPID!!

Frau, I give you credit for keeping your cool with that jerk salesman, I probably couldn't have.. . I hate people that think that using violence on an animal is the way to teach. If only people could understand that violence only makes the animal more aggressive & causes them to distrust people, including their master...and people wonder why dogs turn..

As for the child, why would anyone walk away & leave their child standing there alone with 2 dogs, that's the mother's fault & I think the owner should be held responsable too, it was his responsability to fix the gate that his dogs broke....The owner comes off like " Mr. Innocent" well he is far from innocent in this.
unforunatly, the dogs will pay the price now & why are they destroying the female? The boy said it was the male who attacked him & the mother said herself that the female was just licking him ??

You know I would for once like to see on the headlines
"Rottie saves person's life" but when that does happen all they'll print in the BACK of the paper is "Dog saves person's life" ( with No picture)..:(

I question why they are destroying her as well. I'm starting to learn about this breed and I'm wondering if the female tasted any blood. Could that be a future problem?? It doesn't seem fair to destroy her if she didn't do any harm :( It's a difficult decision, and I hope it gets treated as fairly as possible. As I said earlier, this shouldn't have happened!

Is it just me, or it the statement about "potential taste of blood in an animals mouth" really stupid? Is that true? That a dog that gets the taste of blood in its mouth will turn into this bloodthirsty monster? And this guy is a "breeder"?
Please know I'm not defending the dog bite in any way - but that statement just seems ignorant to me. What if your dog bit someone who was attacking you? Is he now to be put down because he got the taste of blood in his mouth and might suddenly go after any tasty looking arm?

That really makes sense! Thanks for bringing that up! That pretty much answered my question earlier. I know it was probably a dumb question in the first place...but I guess it's through our question's and researching that we learn. :p

Personally, I don't feel that if a dog gets a taste of blood that he will be prone to attack, We have always had dogs in our household & I recall many times as a child that I came home crying with a scraped knee or a bloody elbow & my dogs licking the wound .I believe that they did this because they knew I was hurt & where trying to sooth & clean the wound..I feel in their own way they where trying to make me feel better, now I know some people would not agree with me but this is what I believe & I would get up in any court & testify that NONE have my dogs have ever turned on me or anyone else after getting the taste of human blood.

Maybe instead of looking at this situation like " she got the taste of blood so now she must be destroyed" , they should take into consideration that the dog did know the child & maybe, just maybe she knew he was hurt & was trying to make him feel better....

These are just my thoughts, for whatever it's worth, I don't know for sure why she was kissing him but it's just another way of looking at things...

Well I guess Elke is doomed to be a killer according to the MORON who calls himself a breeder in this news story.

Cut myself yesterday......but I didn't know it. Elke "found the boo-boo" and licked the blood.

I'm hanging up her Search Dog vest because now that she "tasted blood" surely it will be a Search and Destroy mission instead of Search and Rescue.

I would rather see this idiots dogs euthanized than to have to suffer life with a complete and utter FOOL like him.

It's a damn shame there isn't a Legal Statute somewhere where someone can be charged with Felony Stupid. This "breeder" would get the electric chair if there were.
